Vijaya Chamundeswari is an Indian fitness expert and the daughter of veteran South Indian actors Gemini Ganesan and Savitri. She is the sister of famous Bollywood actress Rekha.

- Her mother is known as the “Meenakumari” of the South Indian film industry.
- Vijaya was only 16 years old when she got married. A few years before her marriage, there were some differences between her parents and they separated.
- Her mother Savitri started drinking alcohol due to problems in her personal life, which affected her greatly. One day, she fell into a coma for 19 months and finally died on December 26, 1981 at the age of 46.
- Vijaya revealed in an interview that she has never watched any of her mother’s movies as her mother cried in most of them, which made her feel uneasy. However, after her mother passed away, she started watching her movies.
- In May 2018, her mother’s biopic “Mahanati” was released. Keerthy Suresh plays Savitri in the film.
- After the film was released, her sister Dr. Kamala Selvaraj claimed that the film was fictional and did not represent reality and that her father was wrongly represented in the film. She also claimed that the film was entirely based on Vijaya’s claims and the filmmakers should have considered her father’s friends and acquaintances in the industry before casting his character. Responding to her comments, Vijaya said that she respects her sister’s point of view; as they belong to the same family.
