In 2011, Vikramaditya entered politics and became a member of the Indian National Congress. In 2013, he was elected as the President of Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress. In the 2017 assembly elections, Wickramathea contested from Shimla Rural constituency and won the seat defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ravi Mehta by a margin of 13,860 votes. In 2022, he contested from the same constituency and won by a margin of 4880 votes defeating the BJP candidate Dr. Pramod Sharma. On January 8, 2023, he was sworn in as Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Cabinet Minister. He resigned as minister on February 28, 2024.

FIR for alleged accumulation of disproportionate assets
On September 23, 2015, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, his son Vikramaditya Singh, wife Pratibha Singh and daughter Aprajita Singh. They are accused of amassing disproportionate assets of over Rs 10 crore. The chargesheet was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) between 2009 and 2012, when Veerbhadra was serving as a Union minister in the UPA government. He and his family were charged with fraud and forgery for investing unaccounted funds in LIC policies through agents and trying to evade income tax by claiming the illegal funds as farm income from the sale of apples. They were booked under sections 109 (abetment) and 465 (punishment for forgery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).
Accused of domestic violence
On October 17, 2022, Vikramaditya’s wife Sudarshana Chundawat filed a case against him, her mother-in-law Pratibha Singh, sister-in-law Aparajita Singh, brother-in-law Angad Singh and a woman in a Udaipur court. Amreen, who hails from Chandigarh, was charged with domestic abuse and financial exploitation under Section 12 of the Domestic Violence Act. In the complaint, Sudarshana accused Vikramaditya of having an affair with Amreen, 38, a resident of Chandigarh. She alleged that Vikramaditya installed CCTV cameras in her room to monitor her and threatened and pressured her to divorce. When she confronted him about his extramarital affair, Vikramaditya revealed that he wanted to marry Amrien but after his father Virbhadra Singh objected to his relationship with Amrien and threatened to disown him After the relationship, he had to marry Sudarshana. In December 2022, there were reports that a Udaipur court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Vikramaditya and his mother Pratibha Singh, but Vikramaditya denied the rumor and said ,
The court did not pass an order regarding the issuance of non-bailable warrants. On the contrary, we have accepted these notices. We are not running away from the law. We did not breach the contract, so there was no question of a warrant being issued against us. ”
