Annette O’Toole is known and loved for her role as Hope McCrea in Virgin River, but long before she joined the cast, the actress was already a household name, with more than 90 acting credits.

After landing her first major film role in the 1975 satire Smile, Annette added to her early filmography with a one-off appearance in Day August, Hawaii Five-O and Policewomanas well as various TV movies, including ABC Love for rent (1979). Starring Carol Martin alongside David Selby and Lisa Eilbacher, Annette brought a completely different look to the film and looks amazing.

While Annette is usually recognized as a brunette, the actress wore rich red locks for the film, and is causing major hair envy. Tracking Love for rentAnnette continued to thrive, landing roles in Hollywood blockbusters 48 hours (1982), Superman III (1983) and I swear (1987). And on the TV front, the 71-year-old has gone on to star in shows including It (1990), Nash Bridges (1996-98) i Smallville (2001-2011).
During the interview in 2021, s Daily Planet, Annette reflected on her decade-long career. “I fell in love acting like I was falling in love with a person and it only got deeper!” she said. “All I wanted to do was work.”

In 2018, Annette signed on for the first season of Virgin River, and the rest, as we know, is history! Reflecting on what made her want to join the show, Annette said Great interviews: “Sue Tenney, our original showrunner, called my agent and wanted to talk to me about this project,” she explained.

“I think Tim [Matheson] was already involved, and I’ve worked with him three times in the past and I’ve known him for a long time. So that was appealing and she and I just talked about it.”

Annette continued: “I liked the idea of bringing out that relationship between Hope and Doc because if you’re going to do a romantic story, older people also have romance in their lives or have relationship issues or things that they’re dealing with…or not. But I wanted it to be as much about that couple as it was about the younger people on the show, and Sue probably came up with that idea first. That was great, and she was depending on me to give her a sense of what I thought about this person.”
