VT Balram is an Indian politician who represented the Thrithala state assembly constituency in Kerala from 2011 to 2021. He is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Vice Chairman of the Kerala State Congress Committee (KPCC).

VT Balram has been a member of the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student wing of the Indian National Congress party in the state, since his college days. In 1998, Balram became the College Union Commissioner of Sree Krishna College in Guruvayur, Kerala. While serving at Government Engineering College, Thrissur (2002), VT Balram became the college union councilor for the second time. He served as a member of the Senate of Calicut University from 1999 to 2000 and from 2006 to 2007. In 2011, Balram was announced as the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate from Thrithala assembly constituency in Palakkad, Kerala. Srithala has been a stronghold of the CPI(M) for more than two decades, with the Congress triumphing in 1987. Balram defeated Mamikutty of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the first election (the 2011 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections) by a margin of about 3,000 votes, regaining the parliamentary constituency after 20 years of LDF rule. Controversial comments about communist icon and leader AK Gopalan (AKG)
VT Balram stirred the hornet’s nest in 2018 when he made disgusting remarks against the late communist icon AK Gopalan, the leader of opposition in the first Lok Sabha. Balram, through a Facebook post, suggested that AKG was a pedophile who fell in love with a girl many years younger than him while he was legally married to his first wife. Balram’s comments did not go down well with CPI(M) leaders and party workers.
