Was Kate Middleton’s Return to Royal Duty Following Her Surgery Recovery Just Revealed?

Has the British Army just given a date for Kate Middleton’s reappearance?

The Princess of Wales, who has been recovering from abdominal surgery since January 16, is reportedly due to inspect the troops during an engagement at the Horse Guards Parade in London on June 8. More than 1,400 troops will take part in the parade, which is a precursor to next weekend’s Trooping the Color parade.

The British Army’s official website advertised the two dates on Tuesday, showing Princess Kate in her teal outfit inspecting the Irish Guards on St Patrick’s Day last year. King Charles appointed Princess Kate, 42, as an honorary colonel of the Irish Guards shortly after he became monarch in 2022. The Irish Guards’ No. 9 Company is leading the parade this year, meaning Kate would traditionally lead the colonel’s review the weekend before the event.

Trooping the Color is an event to officially mark King Charles’ birthday, and the monarch, who is being treated for cancer and has largely kept out of the public eye since his diagnosis, is listed by the British Army as a participant in the June 15 parade.

Royal watchers were waiting for any sign of Princess Kate’s return to public life and thought they might get one with the announcement from the Ministry of Defence.

However, the British Army may have gone overboard as it was arranged to obtain tickets for spectators. Royal sources point out that it is up to Kensington Palace to confirm the appearance of Prince William, 41, and Princess Kate on every official outing.

A complete timeline of Kate Middleton’s abdominal surgery and recovery

Princess Kate has attended Trooping the Color every year since she married Prince William in 2011 with the exception of a period when the event was scaled back due to COVID-19 restrictions, riding in a horse-drawn carriage and appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with the royals to watch the flypast. But this year will be the first time that she led the Colonel’s review.

The June 8 parade is also the same weekend as the Big Help Out volunteering days, for community groups and other organizations to rally support to help others. Last year, William, Kate and their children helped out with a scout group not far from their home in Windsor.

There is every chance, of course, that the Princess of Wales will be out before Trooping the Color takes place in June.

Officials said at the time of her surgery that she would likely not resume her duties until Easter, which falls on March 31. With her three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 – on school holidays until mid-April, she’s likely to time her first official appearance soon after.

Kate has been recuperating at home, mostly at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, since leaving hospital after 13 days of care in January. She was seen being driven by her mother, Carole Middleton, on Monday, the first time she has been seen since the operation.
