Watch moment female chess champion POISONS rival by lacing her board with deadly mercury in chilling assassination plot

THIS is the chilling moment a chess star allegedly poisoned her opponent alive in broad daylight after badmouthing her.

CCTV shows 40-year-old Russian chess pro Amina Abakarova throwing what is believed to be a toxic chemical onto a chessboard.

The grainy footage shows Abakarova walking unsteadily across the room, looking up to see if any of the two people nearby will notice she’s pulling a trick to destroy Umayganat Osmanova.

He walks over to one of the tables with a chess board on it and places the nondescript bag he’s carrying under it.

The chess player then finds another table and appears to brush a dark gray powder — which prosecutors claim is mercury — onto the board.

He appears to be smearing the dangerous element across the wooden game board using one of his chess pieces to arrange it on the edge of the table, next to it.

Then Abakarova appears to frantically place the chess piece in the same place where she grabbed it.

She carefully inspects the room after exiting to make sure the coast is clear, and the alleged terrifying assassination plot seems to have gone unnoticed.

It is not certain when the video was taken by security cameras, but it was before the game.

It turned out that her long-time opponent Umayganat Osmanova, 30, was due to play in that room later that day as part of the Dagestan Chess Championship in southern Russia.

Osmanova played as she intended and fell ill from “severe dizziness and nausea”, allegedly as a result of inhaling toxic dust.

After the poisoning, Osmanova continued to participate in the tournament – and even won a prize.

Abakarova, 40, allegedly admitted to pouring mercury near the plate in a cunning plot to harm Osmanova.

She was accused of secretly pouring mercury from a thermometer onto an opponent’s board – and dirtying a chess piece.

The tournament referee reported the incident to the police, and video surveillance was reviewed shortly thereafter.

Abakarova was arrested and faces a prison sentence of up to three years if she is found guilty and faces charges of “intentionally causing bodily harm”.

She is asking for the “maximum punishment” for Abakarov for poisoning.

Dagestan Sports Minister Sazhida Sazhidova said: “Like many others, I am confused by what happened, and the motives of such an experienced competitor as Amina Abakarova are incomprehensible.

“The actions she took could have led to an extremely tragic outcome, endangering the lives of everyone who was present, including herself.

“Now she has to answer for what she did according to the law.”

Her friends say her alleged behavior is “completely out of character”.

Abakarova said her motive was “personal enmity” toward Osmanova, who had recently defeated her in a regional competition, according to reports citing law enforcement.

She allegedly accused Osmanova of being rude to her and her relatives behind her back.

Last year, Abakarova won the chess championship of the North Caucasian Federal District in Pyatigorsk.

She works as a chess coach and teaches at a school in Makhachkala, while Osmanova runs her own chess school.
