Wayne Brady on the Freedom of Dating as Publicly Pansexual: 'I'm Not Hiding Anything Now'

The actor and comedian admitted that “it would be hard for me to really commit 100 percent to a relationship” before revealing his sexuality exclusively to PEOPLE last month

Wayne Brady sets no limits when it comes to dating.

51 year old Let’s make a deal host said he’s open to more options when it comes to finding a partner since exclusively revealing to PEOPLE last month that he’s pansexual.

Brady said Party tonight that he is “capable of loving whoever I want regardless of the vessel” since discovering his sexuality.

“It would be hard for me to really commit 100 percent to a relationship when there’s this nagging doubt that I haven’t explored that part of myself,” he explained. “Or even voiced that I had the option.”

He continued: “That doesn’t mean it’s ever going to manifest itself in a relationship with a man, or a relationship with this person. I don’t know, but at least being able to say it, so that if I get into a relationship, whoever I’m in a relationship with knows me 100 percent.”

The comedian also spoke about his newfound freedom since publicly acknowledging his sexuality in August.

“The best part is that now that I’ve said it out loud, I don’t have to worry. I could show up on the red carpet,” he said. “I could be at Denny’s for all you know, I’m not foolin’ nobody… because it is what it is and I’m free to do it.”

Brady revealed that he now embraces who he is without hesitation, sharing, “I think that was the part that was missing, that I couldn’t verbalize, ’cause I couldn’t get hold of it. I always felt so dishonest, and if I was dishonest , then there is no way to truly give 100 percent.”

“I feel different about it now ’cause I said, ‘Oh, well now you know. So if you’d be in a relationship with me, you know Wayne all the way.’ Now I’m not hiding anything, so now I can approach you in a way I never have,” he continued.

“At the end of the day, it just means to me that I’m free to express an option. Here’s the thing: It might never happen… I’m not saying I’m going to be in a relationship with another man. I’m saying it’s very possible that a man will be attracted to me because of that person. I might be attracted to this beautiful woman because of that person. But then again, it might be a non-binary person who might go, ‘Oh, I’m attracted to you. I’m attracted to this trans person.'”

Despite accepting himself, Brady admitted he might not be ready to jump into the dating pool, joking, “I wouldn’t push myself on somebody.”

“The best thing I could have done for myself and for anyone else was to not be in a relationship, to just breathe,” he said. “There are things I want to do… I just want to do right now. I want to keep going to therapy, so when I’m ready to either move on or be chased, whoever it is, my goal is to be the best me.”

Last month, Brady exclusively revealed to PEOPLE that he is pansexual. “Bisexual – open-minded!” he explained further, laughing.

Brady shared how he came to the realization, telling PEOPLE, “To me, pan means being attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, trans, or non-binary. Being able to be attracted to the whole. And, I think, at least for me right now, that it’s the right place.”

“I took pan to mean not only that I could be physically attracted to any of these people or guys, but that I could be attracted to the person who was there,” he explained.

As for his decision to share his identity publicly, Brady said he wanted to be honest with himself and others.

“I’ve told myself in the past, too, no one needs to know my personal business. The world can absolutely go without knowing that Wayne identifies as pan. But it gave me permission to continue living in the shadows and to be secretive,” he explained.

He added, “What does it feel like to not actually be ashamed, to not feel like, ‘Oh, I can’t be part of this conversation because I’m lying?’ I had to stop that behavior.”
