I personally tested this semi-permanent color and I was very impressed. It delivered on all fronts—boosted my color, created a glossy shine, and held up, despite washing my hair regularly for two weeks. I would not recommend it as a solution for covering gray hair, but it certainly refreshes the natural look of blonde, brunette, red and black hair.

Our team also tested the Root Touch-Up Kit for a full coverage solution. Our tester was middle-aged with light brown hair and regularly used coloring products to deal with sporadic and stringy gray hairs. We followed the instructions carefully, using everything in the kit, including the color activator, hair color cream, brush, treatment cap, disposable bowls, gloves and samples of the Color Fresh shampoo and conditioner.

The color was flawless to prepare, took less than five minutes to apply and has a thick formula that stayed in place for a 45 minute build period with no drips. It’s a gentle formula that requires more processing time and hasn’t been as successful at covering grays as stronger, chemical formulas. But our tester liked the color and called it “noticeable but natural.”
