Wendy Williams did not initially realize her talk show had been canceled, according to a statement from her family.
Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, recounted the moment she explained this to her aunt The Wendy Williams Show was removed from the air. “I got serious and said, ‘I really want to explain something to you so you can understand this,'” Finnie told CNN. “‘There is no more The Wendy Williams Show. They decided to cancel it. After so many fantastic seasons, this curtain has come down.’”
That was not enough for Williams (59) to understand the decision, which the presenter had no influence on. “I remember her saying, ‘What are you talking about? Of course I have a show,’ Finnie said, adding: “It took a bit of convincing and talking to the powers that be about her show to really get her to understand that the show is gone.”

The Wendy Williams Show it aired for 13 seasons over 14 years and eventually ended in 2022 without Williams on screen. At the time of the cancellation, Sherri Shepherd was Williams’ interim replacement. The show evolved in format and became today’s Sherri.
On Thursday, Williams’ care team announced that the former host has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The diagnosis came as news to Williams’ family members, who are not involved in Williams’ decisions and care due to an outside guardianship.
Where is Wendy Williams? the documentary, which details Williams’ life and final years off-screen, will explore the media personality’s health issues, alcohol abuse and financial struggles, among other topics. Williams is listed as executive producer of the two-night special.

Legal proceedings in progress, Where is Wendy Williams? is scheduled to premiere on Saturday at 8pm and end at the same time the following day on Lifetime.
