Peter Gregory, a skilled pilot also known as “Pilot Pete”, lost his life in a hot air balloon accident in Ombersley, Worcestershire. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and is currently under investigation by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).
Peter Gregory, aged 25, originally from Cirencester, Gloucestershire, was a keen pilot who found immense joy in flying. His family said that he met his untimely death while engaged in an activity that brought him immense happiness.
A tragic hot air balloon accident serves as a reminder of the risks inherent in aviation. While the investigation is ongoing, the AAIB will carefully examine the circumstances of the incident to determine the cause of the accident.

The tragic incident happened after hundreds of individuals enjoyed the inaugural Worcester Balloon Festival at the city’s racecourse. The organizers point out that the accident has nothing to do with the event. Originally scheduled for May, but canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions, the festival was moved from Friday to Saturday night.
Another person, who was driving on the A449 from Kidderminster to Worcester at 6.15am, described the scene. At first, enchanted by the beautiful sight of the balloons, they persuaded their partners to take a photo.
The British Balloon and Airship Club (BBAC) confirmed the incident and said they had been informed. In a statement, BBAC confirmed that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) will lead the investigation while receiving support from BBAC. They expressed their condolences and expressed their opinion to the family and friends of the affected person at this difficult time.

Although the police provide support through specialist family liaison officers, their involvement remains solely in this supportive capacity.
