There’s nothing better than waiting for a new outfit or game console to arrive in the mail only to find it damaged. Instead of watching your hard-earned money go to waste, Route Package Protection offers an affordable option for consumers to protect their orders. In this guide, we’ll teach you all about Route and how to submit requests!

Route Package Protection is optional third-party insurance for partner merchants like Etsy, Target, Nike and others that offers an affordable way to cover orders that are lost, stolen or damaged. Claims must be submitted within 365 days of the date of purchase.

  1. Step 1 Go to your Route account.

Open the Route app or visit https://claims.route.com/ to navigate to the resolution center. On the first page, enter the e-mail with which you purchased and the order number. Route allows you to use a Route order number or merchant order number from your account.[6]

  2. Select the items you are reporting or as an order release. Route offers you three choices: “Where’s my package?” “Damaged” or “Problem unrelated to lost or stolen.” The first choice, “Where’s my package?” should be selected if you suspect your item is lost, stolen, damaged or disconnected. You can “report a problem” after receiving the latest tracking update.[7]

  3. Check your personal information and problem. After selecting the type of order problem, Route will ask you to confirm your phone number. You will receive a verification code and can then fill in more details about the issue with your order.

    • If your order arrived damaged, for example, you can say, “I received a glass picture frame broken in the box.” If possible, upload images of the item in its original packaging. However, Route may request photos later.[8]
  4. Select the desired resolution. The solutions depend on the retailer you ordered from. Generally, Partner Merchants will offer a refund via PayPal, Venma, prepaid card or original payment method or an item exchange within 1-3 business days. Once you’ve selected your preferred setting, you’ll receive a summary of your order issues in the app or to your email. Then you have to wait for a refund or exchange of the order![9]

    • Route allows you to submit all claims within one year of the order date or the first tracking checkpoint.
