Screen Rant: Kayvan, it’s great to chat with you again, especially what do we do in the shadows Season six. I’ve only watched a few episodes, but I’m loving what I’ve seen so far. Now that we’re coming to the end, how do you feel looking back on this journey with Nandor?
Kayvan Novak: I mean, it’s been a great ride. I don’t miss him yet, but I know I will soon. But I’m also excited to see the new season, so I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far.
So, since this is the final season, you just mentioned that you don’t miss him yet, but when this actually happens, what do you think is Nandor’s greatest trait or personality that you’ll really miss playing him in the future?
Kayvan Novak: Need, maybe confusion. I thought, it’s not just about playing him, it’s about playing with my friends, playing with my co-stars. I will definitely miss being on that set.

So, in getting deeper into the story, I love that this season is not seeing a complete 180, but starting to get closer to a 180, with the relationship between Dracula and Guillermo, especially Nandor and Guillermo, who Can’t rely entirely on not paying attention to Guillermo anymore. How does it feel to explore this dynamic compared to previous seasons?
Kayvan Novak: I mean, it’s always interesting to me and it’s exciting to see what the writers have in store for this season. They’ve had this ball in the air for so long, I don’t think last season will disappoint. I’m excited and enthusiastic about all the scenes we get to play with Harvey, continuing their kind of will-they-won’t-they storyline.
Unrequited love, whatever you want to call it. So, yeah, they’re just keeping it fresh. I think that’s a good thing for the audience, you know, you don’t want to watch something and say, “Oh, they’ve done that. They’ve done that.” It still surprises you and makes you Delight and upset you, depending on how much gay fan art you like to see.

We also see the introduction of the fifth roommate, the long-lost Jerry. I love that he aims to re-energize the team and conquer a new world, but things don’t quite go the way he expected. How does it feel to not only bring him in, but to see how his dynamic affects the entire team?
Kayvan Novak: Well, I have to say, Mike O’Brien, what a lovely guy. I didn’t know about him because I never really watched Saturday Night Live or I wasn’t in the writers’ room or something. But he’s like a duck to water, man. He’s great because I think it can be daunting for a new guy to come in with such an established band and hold their own. He’s great and I love working with him. I didn’t film with him, but enjoyed watching him work from a distance.
I did shoot a few scenes, but it was brilliant, and he was a lovely guy, so great. I think a less great comedian could come in and feel like they have to really establish themselves and probably piss everyone off. But I don’t know, man, what can I say, Paul Sims has friends in high places, so yeah, he’s a great addition. I think, again, the atmosphere on set always translates to the screen. I think that’s why you watch it and you get the sense that we’re having fun, but not too much fun, but enough that translates into our performances and the energy that we have.
I think Mike is definitely a happy guy and we had a lot of fun that day. Sadly, most of the scene was cut, but don’t tell Mike that. We wanted to surprise him when he invited all his friends and family to one of his plays. [Laughs] He’s awesome, man. He thought there would be another season and we didn’t have the heart to tell him. [Laughs] He thinks he’ll be on the Season 8 poster.
Novak likes Nadya and Nandor’s brotherly dynamic

Aside from Jerry’s introduction, I loved that both Nandor and Nadja were trying to fit into Guillermo’s life and stay away from the vampires by interfering with his office life. Compared to other pairings, Nandor and Nadja are less often seen together. How is it like working with Natasia compared to some other groups?
Kayvan Novak: I really, really loved the scenes with Natasha. I feel like when Nandor is with Nadja, it’s like I’m arguing with my sister. She was mean to Nandor, but it was really nice to play that way. We all had brief relationships with each other, which was really interesting, especially when we got to work together, but we all had different ways of approaching it. But we have to tolerate each other along the way. Yeah, I really enjoy doing it, it’s actually a lot of fun doing it. It gets really slapstick between us and the energy is great because I think we’re both energetic performers. Yeah, it was fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

I figured I still had time to ask a question so I wanted to ask too, I know we can’t spoil it per se, but since this is the final season I’d love to hear your feelings about where the series ends and how it ends this chapter .
Kayvan Novak: I think a lot of shows end on a bad note, or end in a silly or unsatisfying way, or kind of like, “What the hell was that?” I would say there’s a lot of angst, but I think for the writers, there really is. . You want to end on a high, you want to end strong, and they absolutely did that. Our reaction was “wow”, it exceeded our expectations. I played a lot of pickleball with the writers and beat most of them, all of them, really badly, which didn’t really work [my plans]because I’m also looking for, like, “Oh, come on, do you have a spoiler? How is this going to end?”
So, I started losing to them on purpose, and the more I lost to them, the more they were like, “Oh, hey, bad luck, but hey, let me give you a little tidbit about what’s going to happen. Right. “I was really excited about this idea and that idea.” And then once they gave me that, I started kicking their a—es. So, for you pickleballers out there, let them win, then take what you want, and then beat them, if that makes sense. It’s going to be a great ending, as great an ending as possible, and if you’re sad that it’s over, you still have 61 more episodes to watch. It’s okay, don’t worry, it’ll be okay.
