For the third night in a row, the jury split their votes and refused to choose a performer to save.
It came moments after Abigail and Afronita topped the public vote and were the first singers of the night to go through to Sunday’s grand final.
The dance group Phoenix Boys and the choir Northants Sings Out remained among the top three.
As Ant and Dec addressed the judges to decide who to save and who to send home, Bruno went first and saved his Golden Buzzer performance by the Phoenix Boys.
Alesha pointed out that she wanted to “even things out” and mentioned that she also wanted to see the choir in the final, so her vote went to Northants Sings Out.
Amanda repeated Alesha’s vote, leaving a panicked Simon to have the deciding vote.
“I knew this was going to happen,” he said as he struggled to decide who to pick.
As the crowd roared, Simon chose the Phoenix Boys, sending the decision to a public vote once again.
As the results were read out, Northants Sings Out were told they were through to the final, leaving the Phoenix Boys – as well as Bruno – in tears.
Fans were furious as they attacked the referees for taking the ‘easy way out’ again.
‘It’s just not fair’, Britain’s Got Talent viewers rage as they attack Simon Cowell over brutal move
One grumbled on Xu, ex-twitter: Seriously, what’s the point of having judges there if they just put it to a public vote most times.”
Another added: “Given that the judges keep splitting votes so it comes down to public vote. They shouldn’t be asked who they want to go through at all. Just go through the two works with the most votes.”
A third agreed: “What’s the point of the judges voting for the top 3 on BGT. We could just send it straight to the public vote. Glad the choir got through though.”
And the fourth interjected: “The public should always vote, not the judges. Especially since they keep saying ‘we listen to the audience'”.
The best moments of the BGT golden buzzer
BGT has handed out many Golden Buzzers over the years, can you think of some of the most famous ones
- Loren Allred – Loren Allred, 32, from Brooklyn, New York, flew to London to audition after recording vocals for The Greatest Showman. The stunning singer received a standing ovation and Golden Buzzer from the judges as she performed a heartwarming rendition of Never Enough from the popular film. Loren took the stage and revealed to the judges that they would have heard her voice many times before that moment. “I was hired to record the vocals for The Greatest Showman as a guide for the actors to know how to sing the songs,” she explained. Loren then revealed that actress Rebecca Ferguson was so impressed with her singing that she decided to let her vocals be heard in the film. “So she was harmonizing,” Loren said.
- Chicken Shed Theater Company – Made up of individuals between the ages of 5 and 37, the group is set up to welcome anyone, regardless of background, to get on stage and perform and fulfill their dream. The Chicken Shed prides itself on accepting anyone and not holding auditions to keep the group a safe and inclusive place. The group wowed with their performance of Wonder by Naughty Boy with Emeli Sande. This meant that Alesha wasted no time as she decided to light her golden buzzer for young performers. She told them she was “honored” to reward their involvement with her golden bell.
- Dancing Grandma – Grandma Paddy Jones and her professional partner Niko Espinosa first hit the headlines when they won Spanish talent show Tú sí que vales in 2009, before appearing on Britain’s Got Talent 2014 where they came ninth. Amanda Holden was so impressed with Paddy that she gave her the Golden Buzzer, sending them straight through to the semi-finals. But things took a worrying turn when Paddy broke a rib while rehearsing a new move and her place on the show was in doubt. In the end, she got all the right to perform, but she did not live up to expectations.
- Bars and Melody – They will forever be remembered for their talent show anti-violence song. Bars and Melody were first seen on the 2014 series of Britain’s Got Talent and made it to the semi-finals when Simon Cowell pressed his Golden Buzzer. They made it to the final thanks to their performance of the song I’ll Be Missing You, but lost the crown to Collabr. These days Charlie Lenehan – known as Melody – is covered in tattoos, with ink on his neck, arms and chest. But he is as close as ever with co-star Leondre Devries – who is Bars – with the pair seen enjoying themselves in exotic locations around the world.
It came after viewers labeled tonight’s semi-final as the “worst ever”.
Twitter seems to be united in the opinion that overall quality tonight was the worst of the night.
“Arguably the worst episode of bgt in tv history. Absolute underpants,” said one.
“I think tonight’s live show was the worst in weeks…” said another.
A third said: “Worst semi-final ever, none should have gone through, performers not evenly distributed. Better performers came out.”
Another said: “Worst semi-final line-up ever without a doubt. If these actors pass as talent then we need help. Absolute rubbish.”
And one long-term viewer remarked: “BGT was a hoot tonight, worst night ever, some good ones have already gone home and who would have won tonight’s show.”
