The world of Suits remains in session.
While the long-running legal drama — which famously starred Meghan Markle before she married Prince Harry — ended its ninth and final season in September 2019, the series lived on thanks to various streaming options.
The series centers on a fictional New York City law firm and follows the exploits of Mike Ross Patrick J. Adams, who manages to land a job as a lawyer despite never attending law school. Of course, Mike spends a number of seasons hoping to keep his big secret to himself, but eventually it comes out.
Furthermore, Suits the legacy was passed down from Pearson, his Gina Torres-led spinoff series that premiered in July 2019 and ran for 10 episodes before being canceled by USA Network. The cast also included Simon Kassianides, Bethany Joy Lenz, Chantel Riley, Isabel Arraiza and Eli Goree.
The short-lived spinoff follows Torres’ character, Jessica Pearson — the powerful co-founder of Pearson Hardman — as she tries to balance her personal life while exploring a political career in her native Chicago after leaving her New York law firm.
In the light Suits‘ recent streaming successes, including setting new viewership records for a purchased title, amassing nearly 18 billion minutes in July 2023, Pearson is following suit, as streaming for the spinoff became available starting August 31.

Pearson originated in the season 7 finale Suits, giving viewers a glimpse of what to expect from Torres’ spinoff following her character, Jessica Pearson. Unlike the main series, the sequel is not a legal drama — rather, it is set in the world of Chicago politics.
The series follows the life of Jessica, a former managing partner at Pearson Specter Litt, as she takes on the role of middleman for the corrupt mayor’s office after moving from NYC to her hometown. Official Pearson the synopsis explains, “Pearson spins recently disbarred New York high-powered attorney Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) around the world as she adapts to the down and dirty politics of Chicago.”
Simon Kassianides, who plays “conflicted” cop Nick D’Amato on the show, previously told PEOPLE it’s a “huge privilege” to continue Suits‘legacy with Pearson. “We’re very aware of the fan base and we’re very excited to show who the real Jessica Pearson is,” he said in July 2019.
“She gets involved in a world that is very different from him Suits”, Kassianides added. “It follows her personal journey and her world in much more detail: her family and her emotional side.”
Torres’ time is up Suits ended in the season six finale mid-season, a shocking twist for her character, who had been on the show since the beginning. “My contract is up, so this wasn’t a power play that went horribly wrong,” the actress told The New York Times in 2016.
“It’s not that I don’t love the show and I don’t love Jessica, who is my alter ego. But my life is my life, and I have to take care of it,” Torres continued. “I had to take care of my personal life.”
At the time, she even hinted at a potential retribution for her character in the future, which is why they “left it open so she wouldn’t die.” The actress explained, “What was so beautiful and poetic about how we decided to end it was that she would find her bliss.”
