James Cameron’s 2009 masterpiece ‘Avatar’ and its 2022 sequel are now available to stream

When Avatar came out in 2009, stunned the whole world. Premiering during the Great Economic Recession, the film managed to gross over $2.9 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of all time.

Directed by James Cameron and featuring an all-star cast including Sigourney Weaver, Zoë Saldaña, Sam Worthington and Michelle Rodriguez, Avatar follows humanity as it gathers resources on the planet Pandora. But the planet is already inhabited by the Na’vi, a giant race of blue humanoids who live in harmony with nature instead of trying to exploit and control it.

Filmed using state-of-the-art motion capture technology and CGI, Avatar was a visual spectacle that created a colorful, larger-than-life alien world. In addition to its visual achievements, the film also became known for its messages about environmentalism and imperialism. After the success of the film, Cameron said that Avatar it would become a franchise with a whole saga of films creating a cinematic universe around Pandora.

In Cameron’s 2009 epic, audiences meet the Na’vi for the first time in a story that parallels Disney’s Pocahontas. But it takes place on a vivid alien planet filled with superb graphics, Avatar it was also a dazzling cinematic experience the likes of which viewers had never seen before.

Avatar can be streamed on Max (formerly HBO Max) and Disney+. The film can also be rented on Prime Video and is available to buy on DVD.

Avatar it also recently received a high definition Blu-Ray release.

In the 2022 sequel, audiences discover a new clan of Na’vi, the Metkayin, who live on the planet’s remote islands and spend much of their lives in harmony with the surrounding ocean.

Many of the original stars are back for Avatar: The Way of Water, and the cast also got some new faces, including Kate Winslet, Jack Champion and Edie Falco, among others.

The way of water it streams on Disney+ and Max and can be rented on Prime Video. For anyone with an HBO subscription, the film is shown periodically on the network’s various channels.

Hardcore fans can also get Avatar: The Way of Water on Blu-Ray, which comes complete with special featurettes and bonus behind-the-scenes content.

For fans who want to dive deeper into Avatar and his productions, there are two documentaries on Disney+: the full-length special 20/20 Avatar: The Deep Divewhich records the origin The way of waterand a shorter 9-minute feature film Building the world of Pandorawhich follows Cameron and his team as they create lore and history Avatar.

More Avatar movies are on the way, with the next one expected to premiere in 2025. Until then, fans can explore Pandora through other media.

Avatar it was adapted into both a comic series and a trilogy of graphic novels, and in December 2023, Ubisoft publishes a video game Avatar: The Borderlands of Pandora. The game will allow players to become a Na’vi who wakes up after being put into suspended animation, only to find that Pandora is under attack.

For fully immersive exploration AvatarDisney’s Animal Kingdom park in Orlando, Florida has an entire section dedicated to it Avatar called Pandora – The World of Avatar, complete with rides, themed experiences, Na’vi cuisine and more.

Disney also announced that an Avatar-themed experience coming to Disneyland in Anaheim, California in early 2023.
