Tanner Mordecai is an American football quarterback. He was born to Micah and Leann Mordecai. Mordecai attributes all his sporting achievements to the encouragement and support of his parents. Tanner Mordecai, a star running back, began his career at Midway High School. He threw for 4,797 yards and 51 touchdowns on 334 of 567 attempts.
His skills attracted the attention of the University of Oklahoma, where he promised to continue his football career. Mordecai played for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2018 to 2020, appearing in 12 games. Mordecai transferred to Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 2021 in search of a fresh start. During his career at SMU, he appeared in 24 games and was named to the second team all-conference American. Tanner Mordecai announced his intention to continue his collegiate career by transferring to the University of Wisconsin on December 30, 2022.

Tanner Mordecai, an American football running back, was born on November 8, 1999 to parents Micah and Leann Mordecai. Micah Mordecai attended Texas A&M University and eventually developed a successful chiropractic business in Waco. Meanwhile, Leann Mordecai, who grew up in the same neighborhood, became a radiology technician. Their paths crossed in the hospital, which eventually led to marriage. The couple now lives in Waco after nearly 26 years of marriage and three children.
Their family has a strong sporting tradition, and all three children have been successful in college sports. Their oldest daughter played softball at the University of Kentucky and their second daughter at Midwestern State University.
Growing up in a sports family
Tanner Mordecai’s youth in Waco was strongly associated with athletics. Growing up near Baylor University and attending Midway High School, he was always on the go, watching his sisters’ softball games and eventually building a soccer career. Micah felt at ease in this athletic environment because of his family’s experience in college athletics and his father’s professional tennis experience. Despite their sporting successes, the Mordecai family prioritized basic principles.
Prioritizing academics and nurturing self-confidence were two ideas that stood out. Micah and Leann developed a rigorous attitude where homework came first. The siblings soon realized that homework help was limited; they made them understand the topics themselves, creating a sense of responsibility in them. Tanner Mordecai’s football ambitions grew, and this foundation proved useful in guiding him through the recruiting process and keeping him grounded despite the increasing scrutiny.
