Professional hockey player Alex Ovechkin and his wife, model Anastasia Shubskaya, have been married since 2016.
Alex and Anastasia, who is also called Nastasiya or Nastya, first met at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when they exchanged numbers. After some time they lost contact, but they reconnected in early 2015 when the hockey player started commenting on her posts on Instagram. After they started FaceTiming and met in person for dinner from time to time, the athlete then invited her to come to Washington.
“I came,” said Nastja The Washington Post 2020. “And after this, I stayed until now.”
The couple later married in 2016 and have since had two sons.

Before marrying Alex, Anastasia worked as a model. She did most of her work in her native Russia.
Her Instagram has over half a million followers and showcases most of her portfolio.
Alex proposed to her while she was in the shower

In an interview with Washington Post, the model shared the unconventional story of how her husband popped the question. One day, while she was shampooing her hair, Alex burst into the bathroom and got down on one knee.
“I thought, ‘What! Do you understand that I’m just…’ and he didn’t stop, so I said, ‘Oh, my God,’ and I got a towel, I opened the door, and he’s on one knee with flowers and a ring,” Anastasia said. “The first time I opened the door I thought I was going to kill him. Can you imagine being in the shower and then you have to get out… Oh my God. Why couldn’t you just wait? He said, ‘No, no, no. I wanted it now.’ ”
Alex and Anastasia had a small intimate wedding in 2016, but celebrated a bigger one the following year

Despite the couple’s public persona, their wedding was very private. According to Washington Post, the couple signed a marriage certificate in Russia and threw a much more lavish celebration the following year.
The wedding celebration was held in the Barikvah concert hall in Moscow. Family friend Yana Rudkovskaya uploaded a video to Instagram of the professional athlete singing a rendition of Boney M’s “Rasputin” during the wedding.
They share two sons

The couple has two sons together: Sergej and Ilya.
“I was kind of waiting for my kid to be in the locker room with me,” Alex said The Washington Post. “The culture we have here is something special and all the guys love the kids and it’s going to be fun for him.”
On the day they welcomed their second son, the athlete paid tribute to the new baby and his wife on Instagram.
“Thank you, my beloved @nastyashubskaya, for our charming baby! I am the happiest!!” the athlete wrote his post in Russian. “I love you so much! Ilya Aleksandrovich Ovechkin, welcome to this beautiful world, our boy! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️.”

In an interview with S. 2020 men’s magazine, the Stanley Cup winner revealed his wife’s biggest pet peeve in their relationship. When asked what drives his wife crazy, Alex had a ready answer.
“When I go to sleep, I always, like, try to play [on the] phone, I think that’s what she hates the most … Clash of Clans, Candy Crush, all those games,” he admitted. “I’m not addicted, I just like video games.”

The national champion does not miss an opportunity to praise his wife.
“Right now, the only thing I’m thinking about is my family. … She is my only one, she takes care of me, takes care of my son and gives me everything I need – said Alex The Washington Post. “I don’t think I can find a better one. If I had the chance, I would never change it.”
