Peet was born in the lovely city of New York to Penny, a social worker, and Charles Peet, a corporate attorney. Peet moved to London with her family when she was seven, returning four years later.
She auditioned for acting with teacher Uta Hagen in college and decided to become an actress after taking Hagen’s class. Peet appeared in the Off-Broadway Revival of Clifford Odette’s Awake and Sang with Stephen Lang during her four-year study with Hagen.
