A father allegedly shot his 4-year-old son in the head and the child’s mother in the chest on Monday in Columbus, Georgia.
On Tuesday night, Jacquese Antwan Walker, 35, was taken into police custody after a 36-hour manhunt, WTVM reports.
Walker was then taken to the Muscogee County Jail ahead of a court hearing. He faces charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection with the death of his son, Jacques Walker. Jr., according to Fox-5.
The child’s mother, Marshama Bolden, was reportedly shot four times and was taken to a local hospital, Piedmont Columbus Regional, where she remains in critical condition.
According to WSB-TV, police were called to the apartment complex shortly after 8 a.m. Monday morning. At the scene, the police found a seriously injured woman and her son, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
On Tuesday, a statement on the official Facebook account of the Columbus Georgia Police Department announced that Walker had been arrested and was in police custody.

Grandmother of Jacques Jr. and Bolden’s mother Ernestine Freeman expressed her grief in an interview with WTVM.
Freeman claimed she saw the alleged signs of abuse between Walker and her daughter, but believed her daughter would leave the situation before it turned deadly.
She said: “He threatened her. Because they had incidents. She came to my house seven months ago. She was in my house. I thought it was a fight, but there was something else. I don’t get too involved in my children’s business.” Freeman added: “I can’t do anything about who my child loves.”

“It just snapped,” Freeman claimed. “You’re a son of a bitch, and how dare you do this to my daughter?”
“I want him to rot in prison. That’s what I want,” said Jacques Jr.’s aunt and his mother’s sister, Marjae Connerly.
Connerly, who set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Jacques Jr.’s service, told WTVM that the suspect allegedly “always hated every time my sister was happy, and that’s the main reason he probably shot the baby. Because that my sister loved the baby.”

The Columbus Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
