Five months ago, what started out as fun watching his favorite football club turned into a journey of survival. “Talking about his journey and the amount of progress Alexis has made so far. It’s unbelievable,” said Dan Brown, president of operations for Brazen Roofing.
Alexis Prue went into cardiac arrest in January while traveling in Jacksonville, Florida. She and her husband, Andrew Prue, a former WMBF News employee and current roofer, had just left a Tennessee Titans game. Her heart stopped for three minutes, but the emergency medical team managed to save her life.
“Life is so precious that you really never know if you’ll get a second chance. Alexis got a second chance at life and I think it’s a miracle,” Brown said. Prue spent 47 days in intensive care while in a medically induced coma. .
The Prue family is back home with their 18-month-old daughter, India, and the rehabilitation process continues thanks to their perseverance, constant prayer, and community support.
Several organizations hosted fundraisers at The Peanut Warehouse, the venue of Alexis and Andrew’s wedding, in an effort to support them in any way they could.
“I think it’s a blessing and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Martin Pettigrew, CEO of Monarch Roofing. “Taking full responsibility is seeing the outcome of the entire experience, making it a positive one, and bringing the entire roofing company back together, the roofing industry along with other roofers coming together to serve.
“To be able to come together and see her respond to that outpouring of love and support and say, ‘hey, we’re right here, she’s capable of not being able to breathe, but she can handle being there for her family and friends.” According to the organizers, this is an opportunity for a significant contribution.
He really wants to do what’s best for the neighborhood, and this time around, according to Pettigrew, “I feel like it’s our turn as the Myrtle Beach community to give back to him and his wife by taking full responsibility to help him and bring the whole community together.”
