Andrzej Sapkowski was born in Lodz, Poland on June 21, 1948. To study economics, he enrolled at the University of Lodz. Senior sales representative was his first position. Then he got a job as a translator. He attempted to enter a contest organized by the Polish fantasy magazine Fantastyka by writing “The Witcher,” his debut short story.
His novel took third place in the competition, but the magazine published his story in 1986 and received a lot of positive reviews for it. Since then, he has written five novels and three short stories based on “The Wizard”. All these factors contributed to his success as one of the most famous Polish fantasy writers of the 1990s.
