Mancuso, like Mendes, is a multi-hyphenate with a musical and acting background. Before working in traditional media, the creator found initial success on Vine in early 2013. There, he uploaded short clips of comedy skits before moving on to longer-form videos on YouTube — tapping into his audience of 7.4 million subscribers and amassing over a billion views.

Most recently, Mancuso teamed up with Amazon Studios and Wonderland Sound and Vision to write and direct Música, a coming-of-age film that reflects his life. He also stars in an upcoming project alongside Mendes.

He initially made an impact with his video productions, first on Vine and later on YouTube, and gained an audience through his musical and comedic storytelling. According to the film’s logline, he will play “a young man, tormented by music in his head, who must come to terms with an uncertain future while balancing love, family and Brazilian culture in Newark, New Jersey.”

Mancuso will also compose the original music and soundtrack for the film, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The self-taught musician has also taken his talents from the screen to the stage, having performed with Justin Bieber on the Purpose Tour in his native Brazil. “My friendship with Justin, I treated it like any other close friendship I have,” Mancuso told PEOPLE in 2017.

He added: “To be completely honest, I don’t have a lot of close friends, and I would actually consider Justin one of those friends, and that’s only because after we first met a few years ago, he was nothing more than ‘that cool kid with a good heart’ Justin ‘.
