Coleman Hutzler Wikipedia – Hutzler began his coaching career in 2006 and on December 6th it was announced that he would be returning to Mississippi State. Prior to this landmark move, Hutzler worked for Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide. Hutzler had a huge impact on the team during his two seasons at Alabama. Coleman Hutzler, Mississippi State University’s new defensive coordinator, was born in Las Vegas. From 2002 to 2005, he was a linebacker at Middlebury College in Vermont. Hutzler began his coaching career in 2006 as a defensive assistant at the University of San Diego. In 2007, he was hired as a recruiting assistant at Stanford, where he remained from 2008 to 2009. Hutzler began coaching outside linebackers for New Mexico in 2012 and remained there until 2013, before returning to Florida in 2014. He worked and as an assistant linebacker and special teams coach at Florida from 2010-2011.
Coleman returned to the same position in 2014, helping the team to the second-best punt return average in the SEC. He was recruited by Boston College in 2015 and was a member of the top defensive team in the country. A year later, he transferred to the University of South Carolina and worked there for four seasons. Hutzler’s South Carolina special teams finished in the top 20 nationally in net punt return and punt return average in his final season.
Hutzler was nominated for the Broyles Award while in South Carolina. Hutzler played one season for Texas after leaving South Carolina. His defense at Texas was rated among the top nine in the FBS. Coleman joined Ole Miss as special teams coordinator in 2021 and a year later at Alabama. Hutzler helped Alabama rank 16th in sacks per game in his debut season with the Crimson Tide. And in the 2023 season, he made Alabama’s special teams one of the best in the country. They were sixth in the nation in rushing yards and fifteenth in field goal percentage.

Coleman Hutzler is married to Cobey Hutzler (née Shoji) and they have two children. Micah and Leila are the children of a husband-wife athletic team. Cobey Hutzler earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management and communications from the University of Michigan in 2001. She was a defensive end/set specialist at both UNLV and Michigan. She previously coached at Rebel Volleyball Club in Las Vegas, Punahou School in Honolulu and Triangle Volleyball Club in North Carolina. Cobey started at Stanford as the Director of Volleyball Operations and completed her sixth year there in 2013.
Coleman’s father-in-law, Dave Shoji, was once the head coach of the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine women’s volleyball team. He held that position from 1975 to 2017 and retired as the winningest coach in Division I women’s volleyball history, with 1,107 wins. Rainbow won four national championships under his leadership. Cobey and Coleman married on July 17, 2010, and two years later their son Micah was born. Cobey gave birth to their second child, Leila, in 2014. Hutzler posted several pictures of his family on his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) pages.
