The Euphoria the star has been married to Raúl Aktanova since 2014, but their romance began nine years earlier with an unexpected interaction.

Domingo met Raúl in a Walgreens parking lot in 2005, but then they just looked at each other and didn’t say anything to each other.

“I just felt something,” Colman said GQ meeting his now-husband during an interview in 2021. That feeling continued, prompting the actor to take action the next day. He turned to the Internet for help in his search.

After finding Raúl online, he learns that his feelings are mutual – since he too was looking for Colman after their confrontation in the parking lot. The two eventually got together, met in person and have been in love ever since.

He met Colman through Craigslist

During the performance at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in August 2022, Colman revealed how he met Raúl almost two decades ago.

“OK, imagine 17 years ago I was walking down the street and walking into a Walgreens in Berkeley, California,” the actor began. “We passed each other. We never spoke.”

“A few days later, I’m on Craigslist trying to buy a used computer to help me with my writing. I went to the home screen and you know, they have Missed Connections, classifieds-like things, so I’d read them because I’m a romantic,” Colman continued.

As he flipped through them, he had Raúl in mind after their paths crossed, even though they weren’t talking at the time. Colman explained, “I went to another page of Missed Connections and it said, ‘I saw you outside Walgreens, Berkeley.’

“They met two days later” after Raúl described Colman perfectly. I told him, ‘I think you’re going to change my life and I love you,’ she said Euphoria actor, concluding: “And we’ve been together ever since.”

His first official date with Colman was at a bar in San Francisco

After finding each other through Craigslist, the two met at a bar in San Francisco, where they instantly hit it off.

Colman said GQ that they asked each other “Barbara Walters-style” questions, followed by a night together after “Raúl insisted,” the paper noted. Just as Colman thought Raúl was asleep, he leaned into him and whispered, “I think I love you.”

He took the job to be closer to Colman

An acting gig forced Colman to move to Juneau, Alaska during their first summer together. Instead of making their relationship long-distance, Raúl took a job as an assistant costume designer on set so he could leave too.

The couple moved in together to make things work — which they did — as the couple moved to New York later that fall, and Raúl proposed in November.

He and Colman were married nine years after their meeting at Walgreens

Nine years after their first “meeting” in the Walgreen’s parking lot, Raúl and Colman were married in California. Their wedding was non-traditional, taking on the feel of a house party with a casual ceremony – where they greeted their 25 guests with the words, “Welcome to our wedding.”

According to GQ, Colman put on a Hawaiian shirt and they danced until four in the morning. The outlet reported that the couple was “still living happily ever after” during an interview in December 2021, noting that a bouquet of white roses stood behind them as at the very beginning of their romance.

He is very supportive of Colman’s career

From the beginning, Raúl supported Colman in all areas of his life — especially in his busy life as an actor. During Colman’s theater break-in Jonestown in California, Raúl came almost every night with a bouquet of white roses.

“I feel like I should have understood everything that you are,” Raúl told Colman during his GQ interview.

When Colman was named Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role on HBO Euphoria at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, he made sure to thank his husband during his acceptance speech — and dedicated the award to him.

“A lot of kindness got me to this stage, people who love me, people who lift me up. Thank you to those people,” Colman said. “Thank you my dear Raúl, this is for you.”

In January 2024, the couple attended the Sundance Film Festival, where they appeared at the film’s premiere That’s what’s inside — film executive producer Colman.
