The Dalia Dippolito incident
The story began when Dalia married Michael Dippolito, whom we will call Mike from now on for convenience. Mike and Dalia got married and moved to Florida to start a new life together. Dalia kept in touch with her ex-boyfriend Mohammed Shihadeh, whom we will call Mohammed from now on.
Dalia concocted some ridiculous plans with her ex-boyfriend Mohammed to frame Mikea and get him arrested. She made drug plans with Mohammed many times, to the point where Mike became suspicious of how many times the police pulled him over.
Dalia tried to kill her husband several times in the first two months of their marriage. He once tried mixing Anti-Freeze into his tea. Although Mohammed was an accomplice, he was the whistleblower who alerted the police department to Dalia’s intentions.
Mohammed did this because he realized that Dalia was not joking and that she was planning to kill her husband. Out of conscience, he told everything to the police, which resulted in multiple police actions in Boyton.
The first botched operation happened in 2009 when an undercover cop pretended to be a hitman and offered to kill her husband for $7,000. The process was based on Mohammed’s tip, and the officer repeatedly asked her to confirm her intentions.
A second gruesome operation occurred later that year when police and detectives told Dalia that her husband had been killed in a shootout that Dalia had planned. Police filmed and uploaded the woman’s fake reaction to YouTube. It was clear that her reactions were not sincere.
It all started when the police told Mike that he had to convince Dalia to go to the gym. When Dalia arrived at the gym, she was approached by the police department and informed that Mike had been killed. She was brought to the police station, where a detective confronted her about her lie, and she was arrested.
On June 17, 2011, she was charged and convicted of solicitation to commit first degree murder at her first trial. Judge Glenn Kelley, who presided over Dalia Dippolito’s case, said he believed her intentions were completely evil and sentenced her to 20 years in prison.
At the first trial, Dalia tried to show that she was only acting to get a part in a television show with her husband Mike. She told the jury that Mike was also involved, but it was later revealed that shortly after the first sting operation, Dalia called Mike to inform him that she had been framed and that she had been instructed to say all the words shown on the video. State attorneys had a point when they asked her why she would contact him again in such a manner if Mike was part of the whole charade.
Brian Claypool began representing Dalia shortly after her first trial. He made the case that the Boynton Beach Police Department framed Dalija Dippolito for publicity and PR purposes, on which he built the second trial. The second trial took place in 2016 after an appeals court ruled in 2014 that her first trial was improper.
During the second trial, Brian told the jury that Dalia was set up by the police department to get TRP for their television show “Cops.” The police denied these claims, saying that they believed the state attorneys and that the operation was successful and that Mike’s life was saved.
Dalia was found guilty of solicitation of first-degree murder and sentenced to 16 years in prison within 90 minutes of her third trial. Due to technical reasons, the second trial was cancelled. Her third trial was held in 2017. Her defense tried to appeal to the Supreme Court, but their request was rejected.
