Derek Fisher is an American basketball coach and former player who serves as the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). He played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 18 seasons. He also served as president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA).

Jerry West traded Vlade Divac to the Charlotte Hornets for Kobe Bryant. Fisher signed a six-year, $37 million contract with the Golden State Warriors in 2004. The result was a three-year streak that established the Los Angeles Lakers as the NBA’s newest dynasty. He played in all 82 games for the team, averaging 3.3 assists, 10.0 points and 1.01 steals. After clearing waivers, he was eligible to join any team except the Los Angeles Lakers.
Fisher was fired as head coach of the New York Knicks in February 2016 due to the Knicks’ losing streak. On June 10, 2014, Derek began his coaching career by signing a $25 million, five-year contract with the New York Knicks. He and his teammates Jackson and Bryant won two more NBA titles with the club.
