Who Is Emily Bargeron From “Making the Cut”?

Making the Cut, the acclaimed design competition program, premiered the first two binge-worthy episodes of its fresh new season on Amazon Prime Video on August 18, 2022 at 7:00 PM ET. 10 candidates participate in the program, competing to establish their own fashion companies abroad. The program is hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn.

Emily Bargeron was one of the contestants who exhibited their creations. The Making the Cut contestant said in the introduction that her grandmother is her greatest motivation. Mamie Ruth, her clothing line, is named after her grandmother. The native of Savannah, Georgia adapted her outfits but failed to impress judges Nicole Richie, design director of House of Harlow 1960, and Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino.

Emily Bargeron, entrepreneur and designer was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, in a close-knit family. When she was a child, the gifted candidate discovered her love for design and fashion by playing with dresses in her grandmother’s closet. Emily graduated from Georgia Southern University with a BA in Fashion or Apparel Design before working as a page supervisor and graphic designer for the Statesboro Herald. After her designs were well received during the 2009 Charleston Fashion Week, she decided to devote herself to designing full time and started her own company, Mamie Ruth.

Emily mentioned in her introduction to Making the Cut that her fashion label Mamie Ruth was named after her grandmother, who she described as “95 and still going strong.” Speaking about her grandmother, the candidate claimed that she was always smartly dressed and Emily’s fashion sense influenced her.

Emily elaborated on her source of inspiration, saying:

“You had to be extremely creative and make these things for yourself because you loved clothes. I am working hard to expand my brand. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years and I’m on the verge of creating the next global brand.”

In Savannah, Georgia, the Making the Cut participant has three businesses: Mamie Ruth’s (a vintage store), an ice cream shop/gift shop, and a custom t-shirt company. Emily creates clothes that are “extremely vibrant and remind you of a time when you were joyful.”

Emily Bargeron was the first Making the Cut contestant to be eliminated.

The contestants had to put on two outfits as part of their evening-war project on the season premiere, which would be shown as part of a catwalk on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Check out the 10 designers who competed for a chance to win $1 million and mentorship with Amazon Fashion. While the other contestants showed off a wide range of styles, colors, patterns, textures and designs, Emily chose a multi-layered rainbow skirt, which the judges felt did not meet the project’s criteria. Experts said the two-piece suit was “too daytime” and not suitable for nighttime wear.

Although the colors of her second available jumpsuit were beautiful, the judges on Making the Cut believed that the waist ruined the design sense and “looked cheap”. The candidate agreed with the remarks and asked the judges to give her another chance. Heidi, on the other hand, announced that Emily “didn’t make the cut” and was therefore eliminated from the competition.

The Making the Cut winner will receive mentorship from Amazon Fashion, the opportunity to sell the collection in the Making the Cut store, and $1 million to invest in their company. They will also have the opportunity to design new color variations and related products for the store. The first two episodes of Making the Cut Season 3 are now available on Amazon Prime Video. The next two episodes will air on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
