Biography of Felix Gallardo
Felix Gallardo was born on a ranch in Sinaloa, Mexico on January 8, 1946. He graduated from high school and then went to college to study business. After completing his education, he was hired as a member of the Mexican Federal Police, where he served as the bodyguard of Leopoldo Sanchez Celis. In the latter, he also had a godfather.
Later, Celis will use his political connections to help Felix transport his drugs around Mexico. Along with Rafael Caro and Ernesto Fonseca, who previously worked as agents for the Aviles gang and paid the police a fee to move their goods, Felix started his own drug trafficking operation. They took over drug trafficking routes when Aviles was killed in a shootout with police.

After graduating from college, Felix began working for the Mexican Federal Police, where he was assigned to protect his godfather, Celis, the then governor of Sinaloa. He later left and joined the Aviles crime group, where he was in charge of infiltrating the police. After Aviles was killed in a shootout with the police, Rafael Caro and Earnest Camilo took control of the Aviles cocaine gang.
A number of Colombian drug cartels have begun to focus on Mexico as their main supply due to the large number of drug interdictions in Florida. Juan Matta, who had previously introduced Aviles to these cartels, introduced Felix to them. Felix was asking for 5% of the cocaine being smuggled into the US unlike Aviles who was asking for money. Felix profited greatly from the cocaine trade thanks to his many connections on the American border. According to rumors, he and his two partners would earn more than 5 billion dollars a year. A group led by Felix would almost take control of Mexico as a whole in the 1980s.
Kiki Camarena, an undercover DEA agent, infiltrated the drug cartel so deeply with the intention of getting close to Felix Gallardo. The soldiers destroyed an estimated $8 billion worth of property when Camarena revealed the location of one of the organization’s properties that had been guarded by Mexican intelligence officials in 1984.
Felix is warned that the group has been sold to the military. He gave the order to kidnap Camarena. KiKi was kidnapped on February 7, 1985 while trying to escape to the US. Before his death on February 9, 1985, he was subjected to almost 30 hours of torture. Kika’s murder led to the largest DEA murder in Mexico, resulting in the capture of Ernesto and Rafael.
After moving his family to Guadalajara, Felix was detained in 1989 and charged with murder, violence and drug trafficking. He would still run his drug operation while still in prison. He received a 37-year prison sentence in 1990 and was transferred to the highest institution.
His health began to deteriorate in 2013, which is why he requested house arrest in order to celebrate his 70th birthday with his family, but was ultimately denied. In December 2014, he was transferred to a medium-security prison in Guadalajara. He additionally requested house arrest on February 20, 2019, but the Mexican court rejected his request.
