Geddy Lee Weinrib was born on July 29, 1953 in Ontario, Canada as Gary Lee Weinrib to parents Mary Weinrib and Morris Weinrib.

He had a bar mitzvah at age 13 and was raised Jewish. He attended Fisherville Junior High School in Willowdale, Toronto, Canada. When he was nine years old, he started performing.

Back in high school, Lee and his friends turned their basement into a practice space. He dropped out of school to pursue a career as a performer.

Geddy Lee founded the rock band Rush in 1968 together with Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson. A year later, they started performing professionally at recreational events, high school dances and in cafes. They started writing original songs and performing them in bars and clubs. By 1972, the band started performing live.

Rush’s self-titled debut studio album was released in 1974. They released two albums a year later, ‘Fly by Night and ‘Caress of Steel.’ In 1976, ‘2112’ was published. The album ‘A Farewell to Kings’ was released in September 1977. It was followed by ‘Hemispheres’.

“Permanent Waves”, “Moving Pictures”, “Signals”, “Grace Under Pressure”, “Power Windows”, “Hold Your Fire” and “Presto” were their 1980s albums. Rush released the album Roll the Bones in 1991. ‘Counterparts’ was released in October 1993. Their album ‘Test for Echo’ was released in 1996.

Rush released ‘Vapor Trails’ in 2002. This was followed by ‘Snakes & Arrows’ in 2007. ‘Clockwork Angels’, their latest studio album, was released in 2012.
