Charleston has played three seasons at Division II Western Oregon and was a two-time All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection as a sophomore. He later made the decision to transfer, choosing Idaho State University for academic and athletic reasons. He was originally signed by Houston on May 4, 2006 as an undrafted free agent and was later released on September 1, 2006. On January 4, 2007, he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts. He later signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2008 and was able to play in ten games that season. The following year, in 2009, he participated in 19 games and recorded 23 tackles. He was later signed with the Minnesota Vikings on June 28, 2012 and then released on July 1, 2012.
