Who Is Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Husband? All About Brian Hallisay

Jennifer Love Hewitt has worked in television for decades, so it’s no surprise that she met her future husband, Brian Hallisay, while working on a TV show.

After briefly starring in an unaired pilot for a TV series in 2011 Love bitesHewitt and Hallisay reconnected on set List of clients, in which Hallisay played Hewitt’s estranged husband. PEOPLE confirmed the couple’s engagement in June 2013 just days after news broke that they were expecting their first child together.

The couple married in November 2013 and have since had three children: Autumn, Atticus and Aidan.

Before becoming an actor, he worked as an investment banker

Despite his longtime desire to become an actor, Hallisay did not study drama while an undergraduate at Cornell University. “It was always a childhood dream to be an actor. I also liked history and economics, so I took them in college,” Hallisay told Chicago Tribune 2008 “I was an investment banker for a while, until I finally decided to pursue acting in Hollywood.”

Eventually, Hallisay focused on acting, which would lead him to meet his future wife.

He and Hewitt first connected during filming List of clients

After filming the unaired pilot for the series titled Love bitesHewitt and Hallisay reconnected on the set of the Lifetime series List of clients. Hewitt played a single mother named Riley Parks on the show, and Hallisay played a recurring character, Hewitt’s character’s ex-husband, before he was promoted to series regular in the second season.

At that time, the two actors fell in love off-screen. However, the series was canceled after two seasons in November 2013, just months after Hewitt and Hallisay publicly announced their engagement and pregnancy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision came after lengthy negotiations between Hewitt and the show’s producers. Hewitt reportedly wanted their real-life relationship and pregnancy written into the show, but “the actress’ vision didn’t align with what the producers had in mind.”

On November 26, 2013, Hewitt and Hallisay welcomed their first child together — a daughter named Autumn James. During the performance at The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2014, Hewitt revealed that her secret wedding to Hallisay took place on November 20, 2013, just “five days before [Autumn] is born.”

The actress told host Ellen DeGeneres, “It was just the two of us, and then we went to Bed Bath & Beyond because that’s what married people do.” She added of Hallisay: “He’s a great, amazing father and a great husband, and I just feel lucky.”

In November 2023, Hewitt and Hallisay celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

“The moment we met, I knew my life would be better with you in it. And the last ten years have been more than I could have ever dreamed,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “You were always my love.”

She shares three children with Hewitt

After welcoming Autumn in November 2013, the couple welcomed their second child, son Atticus James, on June 25, 2015. The family then became five when Hewitt and Hallisay welcomed their third child, son Aidan James, on September 9. in 2021

When it came to raising a family, Hewitt and Hallisay decided against hiring help. “We didn’t have a night nurse, we didn’t have a babysitter,” Hewitt once told PEOPLE. “We never had any of that. It was very interesting to do it all by ourselves.”

He was Hewitt’s “rock” during the birth of their children

Hewitt said Hallisay was a great support in the delivery room during the birth of all three of their children. During the performance at Jimmy Kimmel Live on the eve of the birth of her second child she joked: “You should be a male doula.”

“I was really worried about getting that face – ‘Mmm, what’s going on here?’ — and I’m not good at faces so I’d say, ‘What does that mean? What does that mean!’ ” she continued, “but he said, ‘This is great. I’m so proud of you right now. This is great, you look beautiful.’ I was really proud of him.”

She shared a similar sentiment while discussing her third pregnancy with PEOPLE in May 2021. “During labor, he’s like a rock, solid,” Hewitt said. “You’d never know if he was panicked or worried or stressed or whatever – he’s just really good.”

But there was one quirk about Hallisay that Hewitt couldn’t help but mention, telling PEOPLE, “The one thing about him and the birth that really makes me laugh is that he eats a lot of snacks. Usually in my hospital bag, it’s like clothes for me and clothes for the baby and then snacks for Brian!”

His birthday is on Halloween

Hewitt revealed on Instagram in October 2021 that her husband was born on Halloween. “Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays,” Hewitt wrote. “And then I had to marry a kid on Halloween!”

Sharing a spooky photo of her husband, Hewitt continued: “Celebrating you is the greatest thing we have [do] today my love. You make our lives more beautiful every day and I am so happy to be yours and that our children have the best dad! Happy birthday to our entire world!”

After working together on Love bites and List of clientsHallisay and Hewitt reunited on screen in the second season of Hewitt’s series 9-1-1. “It was nice to go to work together,” Hewitt said during an interview with ET Canada at PaleyFest 2019. “Never in our careers have we both been able to play characters like this, characters with dark, twisted things. And, so, that was really fun for us.”

In April 2019, Hewitt also celebrated his collaboration with Hallisay on Instagram, captioning a picture of the two in blood makeup: “My heart is so full tonight. So proud of my husband’s performance.”
