Who Is JoAnna Garcia Swisher’s Husband? All About Nick Swisher

JoAnna Garcia Swisher and her husband Nick Swisher clicked immediately.

The Sweet magnolias the actress admits she “fell in love pretty quickly” with the former Yankee player. After meeting through a mutual friend, JoAnna and Nick began dating and got engaged a year later. By the end of 2010, the two were married and, within a few years, began welcoming children.

The couple has two children, and the desire for families was the desire that brought them together.

“One of the things that really impressed me about Nick when I met him was his desire to start a family. Becoming a father was so important to him, so I knew right away that we were both compatible and that we wanted to experience parenthood together.” JoAnna shared with PEOPLE.

Nick also doesn’t fail to let his wife know how lucky he feels to have found her.

“My life changed when she walked into it… Jo, you are my partner in everything I do… and my absolute best friend!” he wrote in a 10th anniversary Instagram post.

He is a former professional baseball player

Nick is a retired professional baseball player, following in the footsteps of his father, Steve Swisher, who also played major league baseball.

After high school, Nick went to The Ohio State University, where he played for the Buckeye baseball team in the Big Ten Conference. His performance on the team earned him the honor of being named the 2000 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Nick made his MLB debut playing for the Oakland Athletics in 2004, but won the World Series with the New York Yankees in 2009. A year later, he became an All-Star.

By the time he was traded to the Cleveland Indians, Nick and JoAnna were already married. They moved and started their family in Cleveland, but he returned to New York and the Yankees in 2016 before retiring in 2017.

He is a sports analyst and podcast host

After retiring from professional baseball, Nick remained with the Yankees as a special advisor alongside former teammate Alex Rodriguez. He also serves as a guest instructor for the Yankees’ spring training.

Additionally, Nick works as a sports analyst for Peacock TV and CBS Sports.

In the past, he acted as an analyst for Fox Sports, contributing MLB WhiparoundFS1’s daily baseball studio program during the baseball season and a regular guest appearance on FS1’s daily studio shows.

In October 2022, he launched his own podcast called The Nick Swisher Show, where he has guests discussing the ups and downs of life, baseball, parenting and more. Previous guests have included actor Frank Grillo, actress Becca Tobin and Charlie and Dixie’s dad, Marc D’Amelio.

They got married in 2010

JoAnna and Nick tied the knot on December 11, 2010. They celebrated their union at the Breakers Hotel & Resort in Palm Beach with an all-star list that included Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriguez. Stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Reba McEntire and Lance Bass were part of the bridal party.

The bride wore an ivory strapless ball gown and veil by Monique Lhuillier, and the groom wore a Burberry London tuxedo.

The couple were engaged for less than a year after Nick popped the question in May 2010.

“I think for the first time in my life I have a wife that I could not be more proud of,” Nick told PEOPLE. “We do such a great job of pushing those others to be better and I think that’s what you have to have.”

JoAnna posted a sweet tribute to her partner on their 12-year anniversary in December 2022.

“12 years of building the most beautiful life together ❤️ here’s a toast to my forever date, @yourboyswish. I love you so much, Nick ❤️,” she captioned a cute video of the two toasting.

They share two children

JoAnna and Nick are the parents of two daughters, Emerson Jay and Sailor Stevie.

Their first born Emerson Jay Swisher was born on May 21, 2013 in Cleveland, Ohio.

“We are overjoyed, blessed and so full of love that our daughter Emme has finally arrived,” the Swishers told PEOPLE. “She’s healthy, beautiful and lively. It’s the best feeling in the world.”

The couple’s second child, Sailor Stevie Swisher, was born on June 28, 2016.

“Watching Emme meet her little sister for the first time was so amazing,” the couple told PEOPLE. “We weren’t sure what to expect because she was the center of our world, but she is so sweet and gentle with her. Our family finally feels complete. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for our precious girls.”

When asked if she plans to have more children in the future, JoAnna told PEOPLE, “I don’t know if we’re done yet, but we’re definitely enjoying the ride.”

They share a “circus” of pets

JoAnna and Nick are animal lovers and as a result their family is full of rescue animals. Their rescue dogs include a black Great Dane named Romeo and a much smaller Cooper, who JoAnna calls their “one of a kind wonder dog.”

JoAnna opened up to PEOPLE about Romeo’s smarts, saying, “Romeo, our Great Dane, is really smart and he learned how to open a trash can. It was really challenging.”

In addition to Romeo and Cooper, the couple share two mini chihuahuas named Lucky and Elsa, along with a cat named Prince Rainbow Sparkle and a hamster.

Speaking to PEOPLE about a recent trip, JoAnna said, “We had a cat, we had our four dogs, we had our hamster, and we were all in an SUV. And we had no room for luggage. Like, barely a bag of could fit in the car with our whole family with snacks.”

“But I looked at my husband and I said, ‘We are so blessed,'” she continued. “We have our two daughters here, all our animals, and we’re a traveling circus. It never ceases to amaze me.”

They settled in Georgia

With JoAnn’s Netflix show Sweet magnolias filming in Atlanta, it made sense for the Swisher family to settle in Georgia. They discovered Lake Oconee in Georgia while she was filming in 2017 and eventually decided to buy a house there.

“We fell in love right away,” she told Southern Living of her first trip to the lake community. “Since then, I’ve been working in Georgia all the time and every time we’re here, we’d make sure to squeeze in a little extra time or come in early for a visit.”

“I commuted to and from work, no problem; my husband made a million friends; and my daughters were the happiest they’ve ever been,” she continued. “I thought, ‘How could I deny this to my family?’ ”

The couple used to live in Los Angeles and split their time between Georgia and JoAnn’s hometown of Tampa, but they sold their Florida home in 2021 and have adjusted to lake life full-time.
