Joey Porter began his prep career at Foothill High School in Bakersfield, California, where he was a two-time all-conference receiver. He was also a Trojan running back. He also led his team to a 9-2 record during his senior year and was named to the All-Section and All-State teams following his final season at Foothill. Joey Porter was the eighth lineman selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Tom was later fired by the Steelers due to a coaching change on March 1, 2007, and was paid a $1 million bonus. He then received interest from various teams, including many rivals from Pittsburgh. They eventually talked him into signing with the Dolphins. So on March 8, 2007, he officially signed for the Dolphins. That offered him a contract worth $32 million, which included a $12 million signing bonus along with $8 million in guaranteed money. On March 5, 2010, he was released from the team. He then signed a three-year, $24.5 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals on March 19, 2010. The guaranteed money in this contract was $17.5 million.
