Lauren Cook, the 32-year-old daughter of John Cook, was a standout volleyball player in college. Cook had the opportunity to coach his daughter when she transferred from UCLA in 2010 to 2012. Lauren decided to return home after failing to fit into LA society, but it wasn’t a bad choice. Her volleyball prowess shined wherever she went, whether it was Lincoln, UCLA or Nebraska.
Lauren, on the other hand, decided not to pursue a career as a professional volleyball player. Lauren, the oldest child of the head volleyball coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network discussing her favorite sport with her father. The father-daughter team recently reunited for another episode, this time to discuss hiring three-time Olympian Jordan Larson as an assistant coach.

Lauren Cook, daughter of John Cook, began her volleyball career at Lincoln Pius X. Lauren was a standout player who helped Pius win three consecutive Class B state championships. The oldest child of Lauren, John and Wendy Cook was born in 1991 and is 32. years. Lauren was a first-team all-state selection in each of her final three seasons at Lincoln.
She was also named an All-American by Volleyball Magazine and set a national record with 4,399 assists while playing setter. Lauren attended UCLA after graduating from Lincoln and continued her volleyball career. Lauren may have only played one year of volleyball at UCLA, but she made an impact. She won AVCA National Freshman of the Year honors in 2009 after averaging 10.69 assists, 2.44 steals, 0.77 kills and 0.40 blocks per set. She was also the first Bruins player to win the honor. Lauren attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after leaving UCLA. Lauren had to drop out of UCLA due to academic problems. The event planning course was not offered at UCLA and was added at Nebraska during Lauren’s sophomore year.
Lauren said LA’s culture also played a factor in her decision to return home. Lauren, a self-described small-town Nebraska kid, went on to play three years at Nebraska. Lauren played setter at Nebraska with two-time All-American Sydney Anderson. Lauren was named co-captain and first team All-Big Ten her senior year in 2012. She received multiple honors while at Nebraska and is still associated with the Huskers. Lauren co-hosts the podcast Kicking Back with the Cooks with her father. The podcast is shared with listeners on the Nebraska Huskers YouTube channel. Lauren married Jason West in 2018, and the couple had a daughter, according to Lauren’s Facebook profile.
Meet John Cook’s son, Taylor Cook
Taylor Cook, son of John Cook, has stayed out of the public eye. The former athlete was the youngest child of the Nebraska volleyball coach. Taylor’s sister was a standout volleyball player at Lincoln Pius, so Taylor was also a soccer player. Taylor got a second chance his senior year at Lincoln in 2012 after missing the 2011-12 academic year. due to stress fractures in the lower back. Taylor told the Lincoln Journal Star in 2012 that he had given up baseball because of lower back problems, but that he intended to join the golf team next spring.
Taylor also said that during the break he got his pilot’s license and traveled to Europe with his father. Previously, in an interview, John admitted that attending Taylor’s events was always difficult due to their conflicting schedules. Taylor lived in Boise, Idaho, according to a 2019 Big 10 Central volleyball coaching interview.
