Justin Hartley’s daughter is all grown up.
The This is us the star is the proud father of one daughter, Isabelle Justice Hartley (20), who he shares with ex-wife Lindsay Korman. The former couple met on the set of the soap opera Passions 2003, got married in May 2004 and just a few months later welcomed Isabella.
After eight years of marriage, it was announced on May 6, 2012 that Korman had filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences”. Despite the divorce, the exes have remained friendly and share joint custody of their teenage daughter.
In the midst of Hartley’s split with Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause, Korman publicly defended her ex, calling him Isabella’s “devoted father” and “tough man” in a statement posted on her Instagram.
While Hartley has tried to keep Isabella out of the spotlight, he can’t help gushing about his daughter in the occasional interview.
“Having an adult, it’s like having another friend to talk to. She’s really wonderful,” the actor told PEOPLE in February 2024. “I think, for me anyway, being a dad really doesn’t go away. It’s always dad first .. I think when she’s 30, she’ll be a dad first.”

Isabella was born to Hartley and Korman on July 3, 2004, just two months after they got married.
Based on his own experience welcoming Isabella to the world, Hartley offered his own This is us Costar Mandy Moore shares some advice on becoming a first-time parent in February 2021.
“I would tell her, if I had to tell her something, I would say, ‘Get some sleep now. Because when the babies come, you won’t get much sleep.’ And if you sleep, it won’t be the same quality of sleep,” he continued The Kelly Clarkson Show.
She is a student at the University of California, Santa Cruz

Isabella graduated from high school in May 2022 and began studying at UC Santa Cruz the following fall, her mother announced on Instagram.
Long before Isabella started college, her father was already dreading the day his daughter would leave the nest alone. When Isabella attended the Critics’ Choice Awards with her dad in January 2020, Hartley talked about his thoughts on her going to school.
“My daughter will be graduating from high school in a few years, so it will be interesting,” he said. “Which means he’s going to move away, which is heartbreaking, but also completely normal and natural, and I’m just going to tell myself that everything’s going to be okay. Yeah, we’re just going to continue to be healthy and good.”
In November 2022, the actor opened up to Jennifer Hudson about how it was “hard” to see Isabella go off to college.
“It’s hard when they leave,” he said. “You think you’re ready for it because as they get older they gain independence and they’re gone anyway. They have their own friends and their own interests and you can visit them.”
Hartley continued: “When they’re really gone, it’s actually a text or a phone call. And you know, she’s 18, so let’s be honest, it’s a text. I don’t take phone calls, which is normal, but I HATE it.”
But he jokingly admitted that one positive thing is that he has “more time to have fun.”
He supports his father’s career

While Isabella mostly stayed out of the limelight, she accompanied her father to numerous events, supporting the actor.
At the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards, Hartley told PEOPLE Now that he thought it was “awesome” that his daughter accompanied him to the event.
“It’s great that he wants to come,” he said. “She’s 15 and a half. There’s that thing where you never know when you’re going to wake up and she’s like, ‘I’m fine.’ But that hasn’t happened yet.”

She is not interested in acting

Despite growing up with two soap star parents, Isabella has yet to express an interest in a similar career, even after being approached by her father’s agent.
“She came to This is us premiere with me and my entire cast was there. It was really nice,” he said during a guest appearance on The The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “My agent also came in – a wonderful man – and he talked to her. He came up to me afterwards and said, ‘Listen, I just want you to know, [I] directly offered to represent your daughter because she has such a great personality, I think she would be great in this job.’ ”
He added of Isabella: “She said, ‘Yeah, um, well, there’s a few things I’m interested in. I’m not really sure if I want to go down that road.’ ”
“It took me years for anyone to pay attention to me! But whatever, good for her. Too cool for school, man,” the proud dad joked.
She is close to her family

Although Isabella’s parents divorced in 2012, she remained close to her mother and father. In honor of her 17th birthday, both parents dedicated Instagram posts to their only child.
Alongside a black and white selfie with the teenager, Hartley wrote: “Happy birthday to this kind and beautiful angel! So proud of you! Love, Dad”
For Korman’s post, the actress wrote: “This beautiful lady, inside and out, turns 17 today. She is smart, passionate, creative, caring and fun. The truth is, yes, parents can do their best to raise the best child / children is possible, but ultimately, it is up to the child to make decisions, decisions that define them.”
For Mother’s Day 2023, Korman posted a sweet tribute on Instagram to her own mother, who has been suffering from cancer for more than a year. In the caption, she shared how the family celebrated Christmas 2022 and how Isabella made the night special for her grandmother.
“My daughter thought it would be fun for everyone to wear light up headbands for the early light show we all got to see that evening,” she wrote. “Mom was too tired so we just lit up our headbands and had our own light show.”
Dad is protective of her

During the appearance at the 2019 Tonight’s showHartley opened up about how he feels about his then 15-year-old daughter starting dating.
“I know it’s a natural thing. She’s wonderful, sweet, responsible … and she’s earned the trust,” he told host Jimmy Fallon, adding with a smile, “but I hate it. I hate it all.”
“Because I loved her first,” he added.
Hartley went on to say that he had yet to like any of her suitors. – When he meets me, it’s that guy – he joked.
Dad taught her to drive

Even with Hartley’s full career, he taught Isabella to drive. However, it didn’t go exactly as he planned.
“It’s the worst thing in the world. There has to be a better way to do this,” he said during an appearance in September 2021. Late Night with Seth Meyers. “Put them behind the wheel, drive them down the street and keep expanding, and we’re kind of at the point where we’re on the freeway and stuff like that.”
Diary of Noel the actor told an anecdote from the time Isabella was 16 years old and accidentally ran through a red light.
“I’m in the car, she’s driving, she’s having a great time, and I’m in the passenger seat,” he said. “I kind of feel relaxed and I’m opening these gummy bears and as I’m eating them — I’m popping them in my mouth like a kid — and I look up and we’re cruising through the quad — and a red light! Just reckless!”
Hartley added: “She just didn’t care.”
The star then made his daughter stop and told her: “That could have been my last gummy bear. You have to be more careful.”
He has a good relationship with his stepmother

After his public divorce from Stause, Hartley began dating his Young and restless Costar Sofia Pernas in June 2020. The couple then married in May 2021.
At PaleyFest This is us event in April 2022. Pernas opened Page six about her relationship with her stepdaughter.
“She’s so wise. I mean, that girl, she’s got it!” Pernas said to Isabella exit. “She knows exactly what she wants. She has a beautiful, wonderful boyfriend. I don’t want to talk about it too much because it’s like, ‘Ahh!’ but they are great.”
Ahead of Isabella’s 18th birthday, Pernas added that her stepdaughter is “very smart” and “knows what she wants.”
“It’s rare for someone at 18 to be so precocious about what they want in a partner without messing up later and realizing your mistakes. She’s great,” she said.
