Film director Kevin Smith has been happily married to his wife Jennifer Schwalbach Smith for over 20 years.

While many know Kevin for his hit movies like Officials and Jay and Silent Bob, not so many fans are familiar with Jennifer’s many talents.

Along with jobs in fields like journalism, podcasting and acting, Jennifer has had an impressive career of her own. She is not very active on social networks (her Instagram page has only two posts) and she does not give media interviews, but there are still many interesting things to know about her.

The couple’s relationship had a unique start when they first met: Jennifer was a journalist working for USA Today when she interviewed Kevin about releasing his Officials comic book. According to Smith’s Instagram post, after the interview, the two began talking via email and then “all-night phone calls.”

He ended up asking her if she wanted to go with him to the Spirit Awards in Los Angeles, and their relationship got off to a slow start as they were both very busy. After a while, they ended up going out to dinner and Kevin said he spent “all my free time at night talking to Jen on the phone, like we were still in high school.”

She is a vegetarian

Kevin has been open about the fact that he became a vegan in order to be healthier after suffering a massive heart attack. His daughter encouraged him to go vegan, telling PEOPLE, “It wasn’t so much advice as ‘You have to do it.’ I didn’t really give him a choice. There was no way it wasn’t going to happen.”
