Mark Nelson Chesnutt was born on September 6, 1963 in Beaumont, Texas. He is the son of singer and record collector Bob Chesnutt, who influenced him a lot, and when he was 17, his father took him to start recording. Mark started playing drums as a child after receiving a set of drums as a Christmas present.
Mark dropped out of high school in the eleventh grade and started playing in Texas clubs. At the age of 17, his father took him to Nashville, Tennessee, to begin recording his music. He became the house band for Beaumont nightclub Cutters, and recorded his music with various regional labels.
