Mark Normand is a stand-up comedian and actor of American origin. He participated in The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, two late night television shows. He’s been on Conan many times.

He grew up in a black house.
Normand was born in the city of New Orleans. He grew up in a black community with his older brother. Normand claims that his father bought an abandoned house on Esplanade Avenue in the French Quarter. Since his father had a difficult past, he always wanted to achieve something of himself, so he bought the house at the lowest price, he claims. It was a miserable way of life because everyone assumed they were rich because they were a white family in a mansion in a black neighborhood and were regularly robbed. When they came home from school, they would often find the door open. It was furious and disturbing, so they were never relaxed.
The most terrifying aspect was the face-to-face crime. Many times the big black kids stole his bike. As a white kid growing up as the only white kid in the area, you’re in the minority, and if you leave the neighborhood, you come back white, and being in the minority stinks, he added.
What do his parents think of his comedy?
Normand portrayed his parents as decent, generous and considerate, but they didn’t go out to lunch because they were workaholics during Lex Fridman’s show. As a result, it was challenging to get much out of them. He said that his father was an angry guy because he had a strange upbringing and was constantly trying to provide, but it was difficult for him, so he took it out on anyone he could.
Having said that, he pointed out that his parents were wonderful and that his father always put them first, but he has no idea how good they were at socializing. They were almost like colleagues. Normand told Impose Magazine that he started stand-up comedy in New Orleans before moving to New York. He was afraid he would never be able to achieve that. Then a colleague from work suggested that he try to stand up. His friend was doing something that night, so he went with him, but he didn’t have the courage. He got drunk and did it after a week. He mentioned a yeast infection, he said. When asked about his parents’ reactions to his humor in an interview with Impose Magazine, Normand said his parents never discussed it with him. He believes it would be too embarrassing for them to say, “You’re a creative, you do what you do, even if we don’t like the joke.” He recalls the production of the film in film school. He ended up claiming that he made a movie that his mother didn’t like, which was embarrassing. However, he believes they are OK with his humor.
He admits that he cheated on his ex-girlfriend
Normand had a 12-year relationship with his ex-girlfriend. They were high school sweethearts. Both were artists who moved to New York together. Normand discussed his painful breakup and how he was found cheating on Bert Kreischer’s show. Everything was fine between them, according to Normand. They shared a small shoebox in Manhattan.
But it gradually became strained since they were both artists and bankrupt. Then he set off. During his travels abroad, he stayed in motels. Normand admitted that he cheats on his ex-girlfriend every weekend because they got bored of each other. He said he almost got caught many times, but each time he denied it until his ex-girlfriend read his phone message.
Normand was in the shower when his phone rang with a message. He didn’t have the password at the time, so his ex-girlfriend accessed the message. There was a photo of a naked girl. Then she read the post in the thread describing what they were doing and all. She claims that when she found out, she kicked the bathroom door and threw the phone into the bathtub. They tried to work things out after the event, but it was never the same. Six months later, it was all over. He moved out after that, but continued to pay the rent, trying to be a nice man despite his guilty conscience, he said.
Relationship
Normand is married to fellow comedian Mae Planert, with whom he previously had a romantic relationship. They became engaged on Martha’s Vineyard in 2021 and married the following November in a private ceremony in New Orleans. They have no children for now.
