Biography of Michael Shanks
Michael Garret Shanks was born in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Vancouver. He spent four years in the BFA acting program and later made several theater appearances after completing a two-year apprenticeship at the famous Stratford Festival in Ontario.
During this time, he appeared in cameo roles in TV series such as Highlander and University Hospital, as well as the television movie A Family Divided and, finally, a small role in The Call of the Wild. In Stargate SG-1 he was cast as Daniel Jackson.

Michael began his professional career playing Dr. Jackson, an archaeologist, in the first five seasons of Stargate SG-1. He left the series after the fifth season. He cited artistic differences as the reason for his concern over the underutilization of his character and the overall direction of the series. He voiced Thor, a character from Asgard, and made several guest appearances throughout the sixth season portraying his role. He returned to do his previous job together for the seventh and next season. But during the tenth episode of the last season, he took a break from work to give birth to his third child. He starred in two direct-to-DVD Stargate films in 2008, Stargate: Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum, for which he received acclaim.
In the Stargate Atlantis pilot, “Rising”, he appears alongside his former character in a crossover appearance. He also made a brief cameo appearance in the pilot of the third Stargate series, Stargate Universe. In addition, he appeared in the episodes “Subversion” and “Human”. Shanks has starred in several different films and television series, including Star Crossed in the science fiction series Andromeda, Sumura, a German, British and South African co-production, and astronaut Adam Wade. He later tried out for the role of Shinzon in Star Trek Nemesis.
