Biography of Mike Portnoy
Mike Portnoy was born in Long Island, Long Beach, New York. His mother died in an incident in 1984 while traveling by plane to Atlantic City with her lover. His father worked as a DJ at a radio station, and later moved to California, where he joined the KRML radio station in 1971. His father always encouraged him when he showed an interest in music. He loved a variety of bands, including The Who, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rush and Iron Maiden.
