Diddy’s first public relationship was with stylist Misa Hylton.
The “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper dated Hylton in the early 1990s and they welcomed their first and only child together, Justin Combs, in December 1993. Although the couple broke up shortly after, they remained close and Hylton followed suit at the events of.
In addition to being a parent — she later had two more children with record executive JoJo Brim — Hylton had a prolific career as a stylist, dressing iconic hip-hop and R&B artists from Lil’ Kim to Mary J. Blige.

After Diddy’s Los Angeles home was raided in March 2024 following allegations in a lawsuit accusing the rapper of sex trafficking, Hylton criticized the use of “excessive and overtly militarized force” by Homeland Security agents against Justin and his brother Christian “King” Combs, who were handcuffed during the search.
“[The force] used against my sons Justin and Christian is deplorable. If these were the sons of a non-black celebrity, they would not have been treated with the same aggression,” she wrote on Instagram. “The attempt to humiliate and terrorize these innocent young BLACKS is despicable!”

Hylton and Diddy first teamed up before either of them became famous. During their relationship, Diddy interned at Uptown Records and scraped together money to buy pizza or catch a train home, Hylton told Premium Pete Show in October 2018.
“I knew she could have what she has now, I just didn’t know what it would look like,” she said of their humble beginnings.

After an internship, he was promoted to A&R at Uptown Records and began working with Jodeci, eventually hiring Hylton to work on their style.
“We were dating at the time and he had just gone from intern to A&R,” she said TO BET in March 2023. “He had a new position at Uptown Records and was in charge of the album’s musical composition, as well as their appearance.”
Hylton added that she would graduate high school early and sit at the company’s headquarters to step in and work as Diddy’s assistant. Her first project was Jodeci’s music video “Gotta Love” where she took a risk and styled the band in street clothes, which was not the norm for male R&B singers at the time.
“That look took off, it went crazy, and it kind of defined how R&B singers would dress and look in the future,” she said. “It really shook up the industry.”

Hylton’s career soon took off, leading her to collaborate with industry icons. One of her closest relationships was with Lil’ Kim, which began in the early days of the rapper’s career. The two worked closely together, exchanging look ideas and complementing each other’s styles.
“Misa was so motivated for me because she got it, I was like her little doll,” Lil’ Kim said in an interview with Complex in December 2019. “I always knew I was in good hands, so I was able to bring something I want wear, she would say ‘Ok, I know exactly what to do with this’… we would say we have telepathy.”
Hylton was also close with Mary J. Blige, whom she also styled.
“I’m just bringing it [Mary’s] ideas to life and I add my style aesthetic to that,” Hylton told 101.1 The Mix radio station in April 2021. “We both just love everything about our creativity. Her music inspires me to understand who she is. I mean, she’s the sickest. She is the best.”

Hylton welcomed her first child, Justin, on December 30, 1993, with Diddy. The couple soon broke up because Diddy didn’t want to settle down while his fame was on the rise, Hylton told Premium Pete Show podcast.
She later married record company director JoJo Brim, with whom she welcomed her son Nika on March 14, 1997. Her daughter Madison was born shortly after, on November 6, 1998.
In 2016, Justin graduated from UCLA with a BA in Sociology, becoming the first “Combs Man” to earn a college education. Since then, he has made several TV appearances, including a role in Season 3 Book of Power II: Spirit and as the presenter of the TV series in 2021. Sincerely, Justin.

Niko, for his part, followed in his mother’s footsteps in the hip-hop industry as a rising rapper. He told Spin in January 2024 that he got his start thanks to his mom styling rapper Rapsody for an event and calling him looking for a “video person.”
“I took the train down to the hotel with my boy. I was talking [Rapsody] “I rap, and she said, ‘If you rap, then spit something,'” he said. “I started rapping for her, and then she was impressed after that. She took down my number, and then we just started building.”
Like her brother, Madison also took up music after graduating from Howard University in 2020. Hylton’s youngest child, the eponymous multihyphenate, not only sings, but is also a designer.

Although Diddy and Hylton divorced when his fame began to rise, the two remained close over the years as they raised their son together.
“We’ve had our ups and downs and fights too and we’ve had our hard times, but I think in the end it’s always about the kids,” she said on Premium Pete Show. “We used to be very close and really good friends.”
Hylton even attended Diddy’s 50th birthday bash in 2015, and the two have appeared in support of their son at various events, including his 2010 Sweet 16 party.

After Justin was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor DUI in June 2023, Hylton shared her disdain for Diddy on her Instagram Stories, writing that “this [is] where the buck stops” for her after “sitting down[ting] around for years and act[ing] like there’s nothing wrong with you.”
She then appeared to mention Diddy’s lawsuit against Diageo, the alcohol company he partnered with to become the face of Ciroc in 2007, although the marketing deal has since been terminated. They teamed up again in 2013 to launch DeLeon. He sued them for racial discrimination in June 2023, alleging they failed to promote two brands.
“How [do] you go from being one of the greatest to ever do it to making all your money off alcohol and suing the damn alcohol company,” Hylton wrote in her stories. “Sell something healthy that builds people up. I’ve had enough of it!!!!! NOT THE MINES.”
The two soon seemed to reconcile, with Diddy responding to a positive comment Hylton left on one of his posts, writing, “I love you queens. Stay in the light.”

Weeks after Diddy’s home was raided in March 2023, Hylton released a video of Justin and Christian being handcuffed by Homeland Security agents.

She stated that the “force” used against the men was “excessive” and that she had hired a lawyer to investigate the case and represent her son.
“Which is too much, it’s too much! Did Justin need a few laser beams from a firearm pointed at his chest?? Did Christian need a gun pointed at the back of his head while he was handcuffed??” she wrote in the description.
She continued, “How many times have we seen young UNARMED BLACK MEN not make it out of situations like this alive??”
She supported Cassie after the singer accused Diddy of allegedly assaulting her
After CNN released footage of Diddy allegedly physically assaulting Cassie at a hotel in March 2016, Hylton offered her support on Instagram with photos of Diddy’s seven children.
“I am heartbroken that Cassie has to relive the horror of her abuse, and my heart goes out to her. I know exactly how she feels, and through my empathy, it triggered my own trauma,” she wrote in the caption.
She continued: “These young people were raised by women who want the best for them – we put God and education first and have always been united in our joint effort to support their dreams. The two youngest do not have their mother here and it was our duty to support them. ”
She added that the children’s father “needs help” and that she “prays that he truly does his personal work and accepts him.”
Diddy addressed the footage himself a few days earlier in an Instagram video.
“It’s so hard to think about the darkest times in your life,” he said. “Sometimes you have to do it. I was screwed. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I’m not apologizing. My behavior in that video is inexcusable.”
He continued: “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
