Who Is Nessa Diab? All About Colin Kaepernick’s Girlfriend

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his longtime girlfriend Nessa Diab have become parents!

The couple welcomed their first child together in the summer of 2022, and announced the news a few weeks after the child’s birth.

“Postpartum recovery has been a journey (more on that later) and I honestly didn’t want to share anything because this is sooooo personal for us and I realized I’m a real mama bear,” Diab wrote on Instagram. “Colin is the most amazing dad and I am so grateful that he is with us every moment of this journey.”

Kaepernick and Diab have been romantically involved since 2015. Together, they founded the nonprofit organization Know Your Rights Camp to support the black and brown communities, as well as Ra Vision Media — a media company that showcases the talents of black and brown professionals.

So who is the quarterback’s biggest fan and the mother of his child? Keep reading to learn more about Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab.

He comes from an Egyptian family

Diab is the daughter of Egyptian parents who immigrated to the United States before she was born. In an episode of the series from 2014 Guy Code podcast, she opened up about her parents’ sacrifices, including her father’s move to America with only $200 in his pocket.

“My dad worked so hard,” Diab said. “My dad had three jobs when he came to the US [including] Security guard. And he had to transfer his credits from Egypt to UCLA so they could be equivalent to American degrees and such. But they just worked hard. Every time I think of working hard, I just think of my parents. My mom cleaned hotels. Although she is a scientist, they did not give her a job because she was allegedly overqualified.”

She lived in Saudi Arabia

She grew up in Southern California, but Diab spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia when her father was transferred there for work. She recalled some of her earliest conflict-filled memories on the podcast.

“Bombings and all that was so normal when I was growing up. Terrorist attacks were always happening in Saudi Arabia. Always,” Diab said. “We lived in a settlement and I was used to it.”

She added: “I remember this one terrorist attack that happened in Saudi Arabia. I was making a friendship bracelet and the air conditioner was blowing all the way in our apartment. And it was just a terrorist attack. It was so normal.”

She is an on-air personality

Diab graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in mass communication.

After stints at iHeartRadio and LA-based Power 106, she got her big break on MTV as a host. At the girl’sspin-off of the popular reality comedy television series Guy Code. This paved the way for concerts to be held at other MTV and VH1 properties, including The The real world, Teenage mom, Snooki & J Wow after-show specials and more Challenge reunions.

She is a prominent voice on the legendary New York radio station Hot 97, host Nessa On Airnationally syndicated radio show in more than 15 markets.

In 2018, she succeeded Cat Greenleaf as host of the long-form interview segment Talk Stoopand a year later, Diab received a New York Emmy nomination for her work on the program.

Diab also hosts a podcast called Nessa Off Air.

She is one of Kaepernick’s biggest supporters

The Talk Stoop host has long defended her partner amid criticism from the NFL. In 2019, Diab tweeted in response to a claim that rapper JAY-Z and the NFL consulted with Kaepernick prior to the league’s partnership with Roc Nation, writing, “THIS is a lie. COLIN never talked to JAY-Z and the NFL before this deal done. They NEVER included him in any discussion.”

She also had Kaepernick’s back when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell admitted the league made a mistake by “not listening to NFL players earlier” and encouraged “everyone to speak up and protest peacefully” in June 2020. Diab reminded the commissioner that the quarterback is still paying the price for his activism.

“And you @nflcommish STILL have @Kaepernicka7 blackballed for peacefully protesting,” she said chirped responding to.

Diab continued to support Kaepernick, often posting about her boyfriend on Instagram. On February 8, 2023, she praised the former NFL player for his work on the KYRC Autopsy initiative, through which Kaepernick works to fact-check police killings. She shared a video featuring a Sports Illustrated a photo of the athlete with the caption “The Reliever” over an image of him looking down.

“@kaepernick7 your consistency, dedication to helping others is special and unfortunately it cost you being ostracized from something you worked so hard for since you were 8. I believe that when all is said and done you will always be loved and celebrated for being on the right side of history,” she wrote.

On March 9, 2023, Diab reposted her boyfriend’s work, congratulating him on the publication of his graphic novel Colin Kaepernick: Change the gamewhich details the athlete’s high school years.

“Go ahead Colin!!! @kaepernick7 everything you create is done with loving intention, clarity and grace. You make it look soooooo easy but I know how much time and energy goes into it all,” Diab wrote in the caption.

“I am always proud and inspired by you,” she added.

She is an outstanding activist

In October 2016, Diab and Kaepernick co-founded the Know Your Rights Camp with a mission to empower youth in black and brown communities. Diab is also an advocate for women’s issues, including reproductive rights. In 2015, the radio host teamed up with comedian Carly Aquilino to tour college campuses as part of the Plan B One Step Perfectly Imperfect campaign, which educated women about the options available to them when faced with an unexpected pregnancy.

“There are so many myths,” Diab told PopSugar. “As women, it’s really important that we educate each other with the real facts and that we can spread the truth about our health, our bodies and what’s important to us.”

She spoke at the United Nations

The radio host is known for her advocacy for women, and in 2015 she was invited to the United Nations to talk about women in media and the challenges they face in the industry. She marked this milestone with a post on Instagram.

“UN HQ #usfmep #NY will talk about discourse on women and media,” she wrote. “Thank you to the amazing panelists who joined us and continue to inspire me. It has been a dream to use my blessings to help raise awareness of the issues that continue to hold us back… This is just the beginning. She shares one child with Kaepernick

On August 28, 2022, Diab and Kaepernick announced the birth of their first child together. In a black and white photo posted on Instagram, the new parents are sitting on a hospital bed holding their newborn.

“I’ve thought long and hard about sharing our life-changing news today…Colin and I welcomed our amazing baby into the world a few weeks ago, and we’re overjoyed with our growing family,” Diab wrote, calling out Kaepernick “amazing dad”.

Although the couple did not reveal the baby’s gender or name, the new mom ended her Instagram caption with her boyfriend’s last name, writing, “Love, Kaepernicks.”

In October 2022, Diab spoke about her new life in a post on Instagram. She shared a photo of herself getting pumped while surrounded by her hair and makeup team. “I experienced so much while on maternity leave and I can’t wait to share it with you,” she wrote in the description. “It took me a second to fully digest everything and find different ways to express it.” She then went on to list things she’s felt and learned as a parent, including “I’m worried about my milk supply,” “Our baby is Colin’s TWWWWWIIINNN 🥰,” and “A feeling of LOVE I never knew existed.”

On November 3, 2022, Diab wished Kaepernick the “happiest birthday” and called him the “best father” of their baby.

“I wish I could write more but our baby needs me lol,” she wrote on Instagram. “WE LOVE YOU!!!!”

She and Kaepernick don’t exchange gifts during the holidays

During an episode of her podcast, Nessa Off AirDiab said that she and Kaepernick do not exchange gifts during the holidays or participate in traditional Christmas festivities.

“We share experiences throughout the year,” she explained. “I feel like it relieves all kinds of stress.”
