Country singer-songwriter Phil Kane will compete on the sixth episode of American Idol, which airs this Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. The upcoming show will follow Phil and the final group of contenders as they take part in the final rehearsal before the Hollywood Week competition. It can be seen that everyone is trying to win the gold or silver ticket.
American Idol contestant Phil Kane is a country singer and songwriter from Pawhuska, Oklahoma. In 2019, he won Pawhuska’s Got Talent and entered several local competitions. He will be seen singing his original Osage County composition for the rehearsal, which will delight the judges.
The popular ABC series aired for over two decades and became a very successful house. In Season 21, famous singers performed in front of a trio of celebrity judges, including pop diva Katy Perry, Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie and country artist Luke Bryan. The public has chosen its champion and is cheering for them to win.

American Idol judge Luke Bryan compared Phil Kane to “country Jackson Browne”.
Before performing on American Idol, Phil Kane introduced himself as an 18-year-old singer and a songwriting student at Belmont University. When host Ryan Seacrest asked about the contestant’s writing, he revealed that he had written songs about country roads and women.
He took to the rehearsal podium and sang his original song Osage County while playing the keyboard. The judges smiled as soon as he started performing, knowing they were watching a celebrity. The examiner stares at the candidate throughout his score.
Even after the performance, the American Idol contestant continued to play the piano. Phil received a standing ovation from all three judges until he returned to the main podium. Luke Bryan later called him “Redneck Jackson Browne” and the other judges agreed to the new moniker.
Katy Perry praised the contestant’s playing and vocal skills, saying:
“From the moment you started playing the piano… Your choice of piano gave me goosebumps.” There is also a story about your music… Every statement is true. It’s so authentic and I can really relate to it. I’m not even in your little community, but I want to call you right now.”
The American Idol judge commended the contestant for his honesty and assured him that his abilities would take him to the top of the competition. According to Lionel Richie, Phil labeled everything, including composition, analogy, melody, and story.
Phil then revealed that he had been composing music when he was 16 years old, which shocked the judges even more. Lionel described the move as “die for money”, adding:
“We know who you are and what your voice sounds like. What you just did is amazing. We have a talented illustrator. You do a great job!”
Katy also gave some good advice to the American Idol candidate. She advises Phil not to compete with other performers but to express himself, emphasizing who he is. Last year’s winner, Noah Thompson, was described by Luke Bryan as “the simplest, most underrated person in the competition.” He said that the winner was chosen because people believed in him. The judge hopes that Phil will recognize this and be inspired by it.
The American Idol judges then approved, giving Phil the golden ticket to Hollywood Week. This year’s 21st season of American Idol has seen a lot of stellar talent. Since this is the final round of the mock exam, the contestants will give their all to the examiner in the hope of passing. Viewers will have to wait and see what happens next.
