Biography of Rachel Dolezal
Ruthann and Lawrence “Larry” Dolezal welcomed Rachel Ann Dolezal to the world on November 12, 1977 in Lincoln County, Montana. Her Caucasian parents are Caucasian, of German, Czech and Swedish descent. Her brother, Joshua Dolezal, wrote a book about their life in Montana; Her parents married in 1974. Her brother teaches English as a full professor at Central Iowa University.
Dolezal claims that she grew up in a hut and that her family hunted with bows and arrows for food, but her mother considers those claims to be untrue. When Dolezal was still a teenager, her parents adopted three African-American children and a black child from Haiti. Three years before the birth of their daughter, in 1974, her mother is said to have shared a tent with Doležal’s father for a short time.
From 2002 to 2006, her parents and adopted child served as missionaries in South Africa. Dolezal testified that she grew up in South Africa, but her parents denied this. Her upbringing is Pentecostal. However, she said that her parents often abused her. She completed the Christian Liberty Academy while homeschooling, earning a 4.0 GPA.
She entered the 1996 Leather Arts Competition after winning the Tandy Leather Scholarship to enter college after graduation.
