Who Is Randy Travis’ Wife? All About Mary Davis

Randy Travis and his wife Mary Davis have a deep love journey.

According to Taste of Country, Travis and Davis knew each other for 30 years before their relationship turned romantic. The couple were married on March 21, 2015 in a ceremony officiated by Pastor Tommy Nelson. Travis was previously married to his manager/wife Elizabeth “Lib” Travis for 19 years. The couple divorced in 2010. Davis was previously married to Dr. Ritchie Beougher, a cosmetic dentist.

The couple overcame Travis’ debilitating stroke in July 2013 that left him unable to speak or sing.

“I tell him all the time, ‘You speak volumes in your silence,’” she told PEOPLE in 2019. “In his silence, he can make me feel like a princess. I feel so blessed to walk with him through this.”

Davis continues to act as Travis’ voice, helping him in his daily life. “He’s a warrior. He’s an angel,” she told Taste of Country 2019. She added that he still tells her how beautiful and special she is, things she used to take for granted. “That’s one of those things I tell people a lot, I say ‘Listen fast, speak slow.’ I wish I had listened to his stories sooner because there are so many great stories.”

So who is Randy Travis’ wife? Here’s everything you need to know about Mary Davis.

She’s from Texas

Davis grew up in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. According to Magazine D, her family moved from Virginia to Plano in 1958 before she was born. “Plano is, from every aspect, a truly phenomenal city,” she told the magazine. “I watched Piano grow for 39 years. You would be hard-pressed to find another city that has grown so aggressively while maintaining such a superior quality of life.”

According to her Facebook, she studied business marketing at Baylor University, graduating in 1981.

She helped him recover from a stroke

Travis suffered a debilitating stroke in July 2013 that affected his mobility and speech. Davis was by his side during his recovery at their ranch in Tioga, Texas, where they communicated with “our seventh sense, if you will,” Davis told PEOPLE. “Our communication is now between hearts, not between lips.”

She told more about the impact of the stroke on his health. “The entire third central part of Randy’s left brain, which is speaking, writing and reading, was affected,” she said. “But every day he has something new to say or do.”

Travis spent four months in the hospital and returned home by Thanksgiving 2013. Davis recounted that it was “like someone left the door open and boy, we got to live life. He didn’t know what a TV remote was or what a telephone was. It takes you back to raising a child and you start over.”

However, he bravely worked on his recovery.

“I don’t think he ever saw himself as a victim,” she added.

Davis shared with Rolling stone 2020 that after his stroke, Travis’ doctors warned her about his long recovery and that he would probably never walk again – and she didn’t buy into their thinking.

“When we got out of the hospital in November 2013, they said, ‘Well, you know, he’s going to be bedridden for the rest of his life. And you will be in and out of hospitals for the rest of his life. So this is a huge task you are taking on.’ I said, ‘I don’t mind it… and I don’t believe it’. ”

She then explained that while his recovery has “plateaus”, there are “spurts of improvement”.

In March 2016, Travis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was still unable to speak at the time, so Davis stepped in to fill his words.

Davis said she had “the daunting task of being the voice of this man who so eloquently put words to melody to make beautiful music.” She added: “I don’t think he realizes how important he was to country music. That humility in Randy doesn’t allow him to think he’s made that much of a difference. When the fans come up and talk to him and want his autograph, I say, ‘Honey, they love you so much.’ And he’s like, I don’t get it. Maybe now that he’s in the Hall of Fame, he’ll get it.”

She recently joined him on the red carpet of the first People’s Choice Country Awards. She was also by his side during meet and greets at CMA Fest 2023, on Instagram, and the 2023 Kentucky Derby.

Travis has had a long road to success in the country music industry. And Davis understands why his fans love him so much.

“The whole industry was inspired because here was a kid from North Carolina with an interesting past who showed up in Nashville and knocked on doors for 10 years and was turned away,” she told PEOPLE.

She explained that fans were most moved by his voice and music.

“The reason people loved Randy Travis is because he left a piece of himself in every song he wrote,” she added. “Whatever you were going through in life, he had a song for you. He made it believable.”

The couple found refuge on their ranch in Texas.

“We’re happy to be here on our farm, our ranch here in Texas,” Davis said Rolling stone. “We have our horses and our cows and we go down and feed them and talk to them. We have wide open spaces and beautiful sunsets.”

They share a strong faith

After the stroke, their faith helped them stay strong throughout the challenging recovery.

“There is no way we could have gone through what we went through without our faith. We were in the hospital for almost six months,” she said Rolling stone.

She further added, “We really relied on God. We are still working every day. It’s as if they say: ‘I walk by the grace of God’. That’s exactly how we feel.”
