Reba McEntire was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on March 28, 1955. Jacqueline (née Smith; born November 6, 1926) was her mother, a teacher who wanted to become a country singer. She gave singing lessons to her children. Reba picked up a guitar and started writing songs. The singing trio called “Singing McEntire’s” was founded by Reba, her brother Pake and her younger sister Susie. The older sister, Alice, stayed away. The ensemble became famous with “The Ballad of John McEntire” and performed at rodeos. Their father, Clark Vincent McEntire, won the World Roping Championship on November 30, 1927 and passed away on October 23, 2014 (1957, 1958 and 1961).
