Biography of Reba McEntire
Reba McEntire was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on March 28, 1955. Jacqueline (née Smith; born November 6, 1926) was her mother, a teacher who wanted to become a country singer. She gave singing lessons to her children. Reba picked up a guitar and started writing songs. The singing trio called “Singing McEntire’s” was founded by Reba, her brother Pake and her younger sister Susie. The older sister, Alice, stayed away. The ensemble became famous with “The Ballad of John McEntire” and performed at rodeos. Their father, Clark Vincent McEntire, won the World Roping Championship on November 30, 1927 and passed away on October 23, 2014 (1957, 1958 and 1961).
Southeastern Oklahoma State University awarded Reba a BA (1976). She was singing in her community when she was hired by the National Rodeo in Oklahoma City. Red Steagall, who helped Reba launch her country music career in Nashville, Tennessee, was the person she met there.

Reba McEntire’s debut single for Mercury, “I Don’t Want to Be a One Night Stand,” was released in 1976 and reached #88. “There’s Nothing like Love between a Woman and Man” was featured on her second album (1976), which peaked at no. 86. (1977). “Glad I Waited Just for You,” her third single, peaked at 88. Reba left Mercury in 1983.
In 1984, Reba signed a contract with MCA Nashville Records and released her seventh album, “Just a Little Love”, with Norra Wilson.
