Joseph Ward Simmons, better known as “Rev Run”, was born in Queens, New York on November 14, 1964 to parents Daniel and Evelyn Simmons. Russell Simmons and Danny Simmons are his brothers.

Rev Run was the lead singer of The Force during his career. Later in his career, he co-founded Run-DMC with DJ Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. As a Pentecostal priest he took the name Rev Run. Appeared on Liberty X’s song “Song 4 Lovers” in 2005.
