Shonda Lynn Rhimes is the daughter of Vera P. and Ilee Rhimes Jr. She was born on January 13, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Park Forest South.
Marian Catholic high school, where she finished her education. Dartmouth College awarded her a BA in Film Studies and English in 1991. She was a member of the Black Underground Theater Association there.
Rhimes also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He has two adopted daughters. Shonda Rhimes also has a daughter via surrogacy.
