Tom is good at keeping secrets from her
When Tom appeared on the Masked singer as Taco in Season 3, he had to keep it a secret from his family — but it wasn’t the first time he’d kept something from Lois.
In an interview for Mario Lopez’s podcast, We continue with Mario Lopezin December 2020, Tom revealed that when Lois was expecting their first daughter, he didn’t tell her the gender for almost the entire pregnancy.
“The doctor pulled me aside and told me that you will have a girl. Lois wanted to be surprised at that moment, so I kept it a secret for six months,” he said.
“I almost accidentally put in a female pronoun once,” he added, before telling the story of how he “slyly” tricked Lois into thinking she was having a boy after that.
“I was doing a live daily talk show in Boston at the time…one of the shows was ‘circumcision: for or against?’ and I brought home the material,” Tom recalled, laughing.

Tom credits his wife with helping him get into Transcendental Meditation, which he has been practicing for 40 years. The technique involves sitting with your eyes closed for 20 minutes twice a day and repeating a word or phrase to focus on, according to the Cleveland Clinic. And other celebrities, like Gisele Bündchen, have spoken about practicing it.
In an interview on Gilbert Gottfried’s Unbelievably colossal podcast in July 2017, Tom opened up about his anger management issues, admitting that he decided to try meditation when Lois told him he needed help.
“There were several apartment walls in my own day that had holes in the stone that I drilled through,” he said, talking about how his anger manifested itself physically. “The temper was always directed at inanimate objects or me.”
The father of two revealed that his wife’s advice came at the beginning of their romance. “One time we were out and then something happened and I just slammed my fist on the car door … And she wisely said, ‘If we’re going to have a relationship, it has to stop,'” he recalled.
Tom said he enrolled in a Transcendental Meditation course the next day. “It makes you happier. It allows you to better assess things as they happen so you don’t jump,” he explained. “It’s the belief that I can be the master of how I react in any given situation.”
When he appeared on Masked singer, also mentioned Lois’ influence on him as a clue. “She made me the man I am today, a softer taco filled with love and blessed with a rich career. I can’t even believe it’s real,” Tom said, referring to his taco costume.

“Lois and I started binging … almost exclusively on Canadian television,” Tom told Saget, recommending the shows Kim’s Convenience, Corner Gas and The Murdoch Mysteries.
“The nice thing is when we eat food at night, we watched all 14 seasons [of Murdoch Mysteries] and then we went back and started the first season again … we didn’t remember who the killer was, it was like we were watching them all over again,” he added, making Saget laugh.
She supports him in difficult times
When Tom’s father died in October 2015, Lois called him to give him the bad news while he was on set Dancing with the stars.
“My wife called me in the locker room,” he said Closer Weekly.
Despite the tragedy, Tom insisted they did not cancel the dress rehearsal or the show for that evening, although he said one of the producers had suggested it.
“I said no, I need it. In the end, they dedicated the show to my dad, and it’s a real example of how the energy of your friends lifts you up,” said Tom.
