Who Is Tony Goldwyn's Wife? All About Jane Musky

Tony Goldwyn and Jane Musky’s love has stood the test of time.

Their decades-long relationship dates back to the early 1980s, when Goldwyn was working at a summer theater camp and Musky was on the verge of working on one of the biggest rom-coms in cinematic history, When Harry met Sally. The couple dated for five years before tying the knot in 1987, but according to Goldwyn, it was love at first sight.

“Jane is just the most amazing human being that I know, and she’s just a real person,” Goldwyn said of his wife on Today 2019. “I knew when I was 21 when I met her, I’d better hold on because I’d never come across this again.”

Three years after the wedding, the couple had the opportunity to work together on the 1990s Spirit. Musky was the film’s production designer, while Goldwyn played the lead role. Soon after, they became the first parents of daughter Anna, who was later joined by sister Tess.

Although it was difficult at times, the couple managed to balance parenthood and both of their busy Hollywood careers. Goldwyn credits Musky with instilling a strong work ethic in their daughters and being a great role model.

“It was much harder for Jane than for me. When I was away, she worked hard, long hours and rushed home from work to make it to six so our nanny could go and put dinner on the table,” Scandal alum told Fatherly in 2019. “She killed herself to do it. We realized it was a great example for our girls to both work equally hard, and both of my kids are ambitious.”

During the 2017 interview Living with Kelly and MarkGoldwyn revealed that it was actually his best friend who was in love with Musky at the time. “I was in college, and I immediately became friends with a guy who is still my best friend and my oldest child’s godfather,” Goldwyn said. He played chaperone on their second date – however, it was Goldwyn who ended up having the stronger bond with Musky.

“He said, ‘There’s this girl I’m obsessed with, and she likes to run and I don’t have sneakers,'” Goldwyn recalled of how they first met. In exchange for a borrowed pair of shoes, a friend invited Goldwyn to join.

“At the end we ran to this beautiful pond and went for a skinny dip. He said, ‘I’m not going in that water, there’s living things in there, you go swim,'” Goldwyn continued. “He kind of stopped running with us, and then Jane and I kept running. We are still running.”

Goldwyn first came to the attention of fans when he played Carl Bruner in the 1990s Spirit. The supernatural romance marked the actor’s first time in a leading role — a performance that Goldwyn believes would never have happened if not for Musky’s persistence.

“Jane’s career took off well before mine,” Goldwyn explained The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March 2024.”Spirit there was a big movie she was doing and I was an unemployed actor who was having a hard time.”

“She would come home and say, ‘You know, there’s a role they didn’t get in this movie.’ I said, ‘That’s one of the main roles! They’re never going to give me this role,'” he continued. “She just kept me going. I finally harassed my agent so much that the assistant in my agent’s office said, ‘I’m going to put you in it’. ”

And the rest is history.

The couple are parents to daughters Anna and Tess. Born in 1990, Anna is a television editor. Tess, who was born in 1995, is an actress like her famous father.

In conversation with FatherlyGoldwyn said it didn’t take him long to learn that the key to parenting isn’t showering kids with gifts, but showing up for all the little moments in life.

“Jane and I quickly realized – being the narcissistic actor that I am – that I could no longer be the center of my universe. It’s not about me. It’s not about her. We tried to make them always understand that they are the center of our lives, not our careers,” he explained.

“I tried my best, given my crazy job, just to show up,” he continued. “It is difficult. I travel for work. I had to jump around. I would come home red-eyed — 90% of life is showing up. I couldn’t always, but I did when I could.”

Although the couple has gone through the ups and downs that come with a decades-long relationship, Goldwyn said it all comes down to communication and teamwork.

“I think in our marriage, at times when we were struggling, we just looked at each other and said, ‘Are you willing to work on this?’ Goldwyn said candidly during an interview in 2019 Today‘s Hoda Kotb. “It is necessary that they both look at each other and agree, even though we have a difficult cycle, we will work on it together.”

“Over time, that cycle kind of repeats itself and you solve more and more plots,” he added.

In May 2024, Goldwyn told PEOPLE that “respect” is what makes their marriage work.

“I married a person I respect very deeply, both for her professional gifts and her humanity and character,” he said. “I’m always kind of in awe of who she is as a person. This is why our relationship is always interesting to me. She is always interesting to me.”
